Thumbs up so ideas for new Sm armies

so lets all face it, i believe like me the rest of you should be pondering the Codex Astartes for ideas on new army lists.


I am still showing my proud Salamanders colors and am trying to find more info on the new units how they work in the new rules and how quickly i can convert or buy the models i need for armies.

I posted this because i dident see any ideas for new lists

other than Master, command squad, dread , (tech-marine or Vets (either or) or scouts? and the new dread. pluse the normal troops (anyone find out if there will be close combat tac squads?) Land raider 1 of 3, etc......

I just think speculating would lead to making mistakes in an army list my fellow salamander, until i see it in black and white on the release day, my salamanders will be taking the shelf till then, im just lucky i havnt committed to any drastically changing models just yet

well, tu'shan is plain gross in terms of his abilities; a master-crafted thunder hammer that strikes at 'I' order and immunity to instant death + gives twin-linked status to all meltas AND flamers!!!
he's tied with the white scars khan for top character IMHO...

also, the new techmarine toy will be a welcome addition for any true salamander, as will the land raider redeemer! (mmmmmm...toasty!)

all-in-all, i'd say that salamanders should concentrate on what they've always been good at; solid long-ranged firepower from devies & techmarines while the assault itself is led by melta/flamer toting tactical squads & terminators!

so in other words stitch

Tu'Shan is most susceptible to lasgun fire/small arms fire as he is immune to instant death. meh sucks. Khan is soooo wrong that im gonna do an army based on him.

I would think that Ye Olde Tactical marines and Predators will be the way forward.

5th ed. marines armies. I have a friend who is ready to stop playing his marines because of WS/BS 3 scouts and no +1 attacks for powerfists. No matter how much I try I can't get him to stop crying even though he has scouts that are troops and there is no more tactical powerfist denial.

I have another friend who sold his Ravenwing/Deathwing army because Land Speeders can't destroy everything.

Balanced armies are going to run amazingly well. An assault marine squad can drop down somewhere much more safely than before and take advantage of cover saves. Then they can run and spread out a little to avoid bad ordnance shots. You have a Whirlwind (Barrage weapons are amazing in 5th.) destroy/damage units. A land speeder or two to attack important targets at the right time. Typhoons are pretty effective now also. If veterans can infiltrate in the new book it might be worth taking them as outflankers. Dreadnaughts mobile heavy weapons are good for trying to hit a vehicle without giving it a cover save. Multimeltas on attack bikes are possibly the most effective way to kill tanks short of a railgun. Vindicators can cause major damage even though we don't have lash of submission.

New tactics will be the key for 5th.

Anyone who is even considering playing Marines in 5th Edition....or starting a Marine Army in the next couple of months should definitely wait until the codex comes out in Sep/Oct....

I feel the pain of everyone as my scouts are near and dear to me....I run with three squads of ten - One Sniper/ML Squad and two CCW Squads with Veteran Sergeant and Powerfists.....the lost attack for the Powerfist I can live with....WS3/BS3 has infuriated me beyond belief.....especially since I am knee deep into my Third Company - A FULL SCOUT COMPANY....I am not going to get depressed....I swear....not until the Codex is released.....

Salamanders sound amazing....but why build an army if you don't have the Codex? Don't do it....because u will end up changing EVERYTHING....

Until then.....I have a reason to shelve my marines and finish my witch hunters army....

Gotta love GW.....

that is why thy lowered the ws/bs
guys were fielding the cheaper scouts instead of battle brothers
or CCscouts instead of assault squads.

i feel your pain im a huge fan of tactical scout
and i still will be in the next edition
dont let the changes discourage you from what you want to accomplish collection wise

for everyone who's thinking that scouts have just become poo with their WS/BS reduction, consider this;

when is the last time you ever hear a space wolf player moan about their bloodclaws being WS3/BS3?!!

the main difference is that alot of combat specialists will hit scouts on 3's now, while scouts will still hit on a 4+ as normal... the only 'loss' of power is against guardsmen and other WS3 troops - who also typically only have S3 anyways!!! scouts will still make quite a mess of those S3/T3 units...

sniper scouts lose their 2+ to hit/ 4+ to wound, but gain rend plus in the dawn of war scenrio they can be deployed at the start of the game, same goes for tactical souts (bolters and missile launcher), good choice to deny areas for people getting a straight run at you with no stoppage, melee scouts still will be great to contast other people objectives dropping from their transport

my iron hands are going to need an overhaul, no more 4 dreads, maybe i can retire lang, been using him for over 15 yrs. the power fist drawback i don't mind, but cutting all the combis off of my vt sgts, has me kinda miffed, and I think the new techmarine hq might be better than the current one.
but the sallies will be back, *digs up chaplian xavier*, it's been over 6 yrs friend but you will be on the field again.
