Default The Captain slow way to paint a nice Red Cloth.

Okay, after posting my sister of battle cannoness and the recent ensntive from Ikarus to help the community more. and havinga very cool bertonia model sat on my desk for alittle over 4 months. i decided to get painting, and so, this tutorial was born, anyway on with the show:

Difficulty: not easy, it all really depends on the model. but overall. 3/5 stars

Okay what your going to need:
Detail brush
Fine detail brush, OR if you have one a 0000 brush.
Scab Red
Red Gore
Red Ink
Scorched brown
Skull white

STEP ONE:
very simple, just get a nice smooth coat of Scab red over the area your going to paint. might take 2 coats.
Result:

STEP TWO:
Paint a 1:2 mix of scorched brown and Scab Red into all the creases/recesses of the cloth/dress/clothes Etc.
Result:

Step Three:
Paint a 4:1 mix of Red Gore and Skull white onto all the rasied areas.
Result:

STEP FOUR:
Paint a 2:1 Mix of Red Gore Skull as Extreme highlights. (the model I painted did'nt require any of this so... sorry folks, no photos. however the sister of battle and Aunier both have this step)

STEP FIVE:
Glaze the red areas of the model with Red ink to merge all the highlights and shadeing.
Result:

well there it is from start to finish. this was not the best model to showcase the technquie, but its what ive got, 'The Lady in the Red Dress' as ive coem to call her will be entering my local GWs feburary painting comp, thats is i can ever figure out how to do her damn hair. ><
anyway hope this helps.

Try the same method but do it in whatever color you want for the hair

Very nice tutorial btw.

The last step ruined it. I hate glazes, it's lazy and makes the whole thing shiny... Cloth isn't shiny!

In honesty, I would have watered down the red ink, so it creates a nice shade, brings the highlights together, but you don't get too much of a shine, I think the glaze is better off for things like armor, it really worked on your SoB.

And what colour hair are you thinking of? ... Best be blonde and blue eyed Can give you a hand when I next see you

Dave, nano. i can see where your comeing from, the red ink does make the model shiny. and so for how much ink to use, use as little as possible! it does make the cloth go shiny, and therefire horrible. best thing to do, is seriously water the ink down, and the spray it in purity seal as it tones down the shine considerably.

I wouldnt say ruined...A couple of coats of Matte Varnish would take care of that shine Nanolathe . But I do suggest you thin down your inks a bit.

Instead of using inks, you could mix up a wash using your base red and heavily dilute it with water. You'll have to do mulitple coats to reach the desired effect, but you wont get the shine.

that's how i'd have done it. concider using a flesh tone insdead of white for the highlight too as it stops things becoming too pink.

thanks for taking the time to so us this slow, i'll shift it to the painting tute boards witht he others.

I was excited until you said 'The Warstore'... I refuse to buy from that man and support him, due to the outrageous inflations and prices he charges on bits.

Any alternatives or other vendors for it?
