Well, I already think I have the painting bug, I REALLY wanna do a test model. I will try to borrow a silver from my best pal. He just got a new apartment, with a big room he's turning into a painting and gaming room. So when he gets fully moved in, I'll spend the night and hopefully have a test model to show. Hehe, if (it's a gargantuan if) I ever build and paint a mini that is not Chaos, may the Chaos powers strike me down! Not gonna happen guys, I love my CSM too much. That's what kinda worries me. On the other hand, I could just build and paint them and trade them here. Something inside me says never to touch a mini that isn't Chaos though. Wow, I really am a fanatic!

good tips.

I just find it depressing when I look at a model that i did in my first year of painting and comapre it to them now. I need to find out how I did it lol.

My first miniature was a gondor soldier, and I didn't evn prime him, I just started painting. Then my dad came and frieked out, so we primed over ma work and I painted them. I couldn't paint in a straight line to save my life. The armour was all blobbed, but I remember how proud I was.

A couple of weeks ago I found one of the models, and I compaied it to my work now. I felt so nostalgic, even though it had only been three years, and I felt extremly proud of my skills as a painter.

It's good to see where you've come from, even if it has only been three years.

thast very true, i can agree totaly with that. because? ive been painting flat simple colours for the last...10 years. give or take, and after painting an auneur sword of twighlight model, for the sheer hell of it, i realised one thing. I can paint, not just flat base colours, but anything i turn my hand to, if i just try! I'd never done highlighting, shadeing, inks, anything! and now, after painting that one model 8 months ago, I've never looked back, honestly, i enjoy picking up my paint brush, and haveing ago at doing faces ( no matter how much they irk me sometimes ) Or painting the red armour on my cannones (which is ink's and highlights)
okay im done ranting, but the point is, with time and practise, you can do anything you set your mind too.
and the tips here in this article help no end, such as curling the brush to keep its point, and watering down my paints, something I'd never really thought about till i saw the results here on terra.

that's one of the most inspiring things about this place...you can see a technique done that you haven't tried before, ask how it was done and receive some very good advice. you give it a go and blow me if it doesn't work out! then before you know it you're the one dishing out the advice to others, sharing you're experiences and expertese, and inspiring the younger/less skilled painters to stretch their limits and try new things.

kinda like the circle of life really

Yeah, mine was of horrid quality. They were pretty shoddy by my standards today.

Yeah, but nobody has do die first

And now, to add something!
_____

You know that saying," Practice makes perfect" ? well, it makes excellence. We all should strive to do our personal best, but if we aim too high we are opt to miss it entirely.

"The Problem is not that we aim to high and miss it, but we aim too low and it it-" Bastian...uhmmmm... What was his last name?! Anywas, it's the sculpter from Fulgrim.

Strive to do your best, but aim too high and we seek to disappoint ourselves. Aim too low and we risk actually making our expectations with a bad model.

That's my two cents worth for now, bwahaha

i am an ok table top painter. the way i learned to paint was to watch other people. and as you pain and trash miniatures I found a few things that work. but experience was my best teacher.

but like you said people are too hard on themselves. just a few colors and enjoy the game.

good advice for TT painters. sooner or later though many TT painters will want to stretch their skills with a brush. gaming is, after all, only one half of the hobby
