Blog Entries: 3 | I have several minis coming up that will need a tutorial on how to effectively paint leather. I know it will need to be more than just slapping brown on the model. I'd like to know what colors (GW paints are great, I can at least compare, etc..) and methods you guys use. I'd like an aged effect to the leather, but not beaten all to hell, and a fairly light color to it as well. A rather well worn but well cared for type of image. Note: Curse you Hair,y Mart, Krom and Wolfpack.. I hated painting before you fools! |

Blog Entries: 4 | Hmm leather eh! Basecoat: Scorched brown Highlight 1: Dark Flesh (on the edges and part of the leather) Highlight 2: Dark Flesh/Bleached Bone 3:1 ratio (thin strip along edges) Highlight 3: Dark Flesh/Bleached Bone 1:3 ration (just on the very very edge in a few places) This keeps the leather a nice dark brown, but shows the edges of nicely. For smooth blends thin your mix alot and do several thin coats of each stage rather than one thick one

Blog Entries: 4 | Yeah its a fairly simple blend with no colour change (just Brown on Brown). If your unsure just go easy on the Bleached bone

Blog Entries: 1 | erus it might help us to see a pic of the effect you're aiming for. if you can find me something to look at i can usually come up with a colour combination that'll get you there.

Blog Entries: 4 | The nearest I came to doing leather was GW's tut... straight scorched brown and pick out the edges with a scorced brown/bleached bone mix...

| Corporal ![]() ![]() | I've found that Red Gore mixed in a 2:1 ratio with Chaos Black gives a nice base to start out with if you want a really dark colour (it's sort of a mahogany look) highlight it with more Red Gore, Scab Red and then working up to Blood Red and even highlights of orange can work. No Tut as of now, but I'm sure I can get around to it eventually.
