Default Painting Faces: Quick and simple!

Ok so i noticed a few people were mentioning that faces were what they hated to paint or didnt like painting because it came out bad to them so i figured id throw my two cents in.

Ever since i figured out this quick and easy face painting combo ive been painting them every chance i could get (i used to select helmeted heads for my space marines only because i couldnt paint faces in the past!)

I usually primer my marines black but after primer is applied:

1)a smooth solid coat of Citadel paint color Bronzed flesh,

(i always give it a minute or two to dry just to be safe, its tough to fix mistakes/smears)

2)next i smear some Citadel Flesh wash ink all over the Bronzed flesh especially sinking small pools (i mean small!) in indentions and furrows in the face.

(give it a minute or two to dry just to be safe)

3) after that i pull out my large drybrush and start applying Citadel Dwarf Flesh which is a pinkish color. I usually drybrush about 3-5 coats of the stuff on there to break up the flesh wash coloring underneathe but still keep it somewhat visible.

(give it a minute or two to dry just to be safe)

4) finally, i drybrush on maybe 1 or 2 LIGHT coats of Citadel Elf flesh on there to add the lighter color ting to the skin

the skin of the face should be looking quite good right about now and i should mention that i paint the skin before anything else on the face because i do tend to drybrush every nook and cranny so the paint does travel off target from time to time but its not enough to effect the other areas of interest.

For the eyes, on my space marines they are usually angled into a sneering position on the model like hes really pissed off so i take some skull white on the tip of my o so fine paint brush and apply the paint from the side.

From the side meaning that you hold the figure so the miniatures head is facing the ceiling and you set the brush on the eye and then move it towards you.

The final color of the skin is always up to you though! if you want darker skin feel free to add on past the final coat of elf flesh or leave that out and replace it with something else. I know that if i wanted to paint a chaos marines flesh if probably replace the dwarf flesh step with bleached bone then with an elf flesh+skull white mixture to give the picture of a very PALE individual because we all know that CHAOS SCUM spends its time in the dark rather than in the sun getting a tan! JERKS!

Anyways i hope this helps everyone and anyone, i would have supplemented with pictures but my camera is a hand-me-down that can barely focus when im a foot and a half away from something, when i get my iphone things will be different!

ok so here are some pics of the painting tutorial in order, i understand they are blurry my camera is a piece! but you can still see how it works. Just remember the first layer of paint (bronze flesh) is the only layer i didnt dry brush on (not counting the flesh wash) . Also i only showed one side of the face on this mini because the other side of his face is bionic aka boltgun metal.

This miniature took me about 5 dwarf flesh drybrush coats and 2 elf flesh dry brush coats to get the mixture just right.

Looks good man but what might make it a bit easier to follow is if you take the Image codes form photobucket and put them directly into your post that way we can follow along step by step.

Keep them coming,

Hmmm, I'll see if I can throw something together for this as soon as I assemble my next chaos lord...
