| ok well Hairy seems to think im desent enough a painter to ask me to do one of these thingies. im flaterd but not to sure about it. but what the hell. ill give it a shot. due to time constraints. and bein busy at work and hell just being a slowass painter. im gonna do this over a few posts. i figure when its all said and done if its usable it can be edited and reposted by a mod. so here we go. im gonna show yall how i get the ohh so good and grimy look. Step 1: i always base coat black.and usualy paint without arms attatched. but for this instance the model was already together. i personaly like to hit my model with coat of black ink over the primer. it makes sure i got all those resseses and thers no holidays or light spots. i also like the lil bit of a shine it gives. Step 2: ok i guess step 2 will be to base coat your primary colors.in this instance im painting a necron warrior. and im goint to be using boltgun metal and scab red as my base colors. now i see alot of people just throw on ther base coats thinking well im gonna paint over most of this later anyway. but i couldnt dissagree more. this is the foundation of your paint job and you should take the time to make it as clean as possable.(no mater how daunting and painfull this prosses may be. oi!) now when appliying your base over the lower areas of armor and such make sure to leave resesed areas black and your high points solid and smooth as possable. here are a few pics at the end of stel 2. ![]() ![]() ![]() next step we will begin washes.

| I like. It's not often I see a necron painted as neatly as that. Good Work.

| ok so here goes step 3. Step 3: Washes. ok i start out on the metalic using a 1:3:2 wash of black/brown/green with about 50% water. i give it 2 or 3 coats. then go onto a straight brown wash about 60% water maybe a touch of black. then start apliying this to joints and high edges.i do about 3 passes of this.then for the reds i mix a 1:2:3 mix of black/red/brown wash and ply a few coats to the red areas.. heres pics fron step 3. ![]() ![]() ![]() next step, begin highlighting.

Blog Entries: 1 | Erm, Grinder, your good and that's an exellent tut. BE MORE CONFIDENT! I dislike what CMoN has done! It's funny but I was chatting to the guy who won a gold at GD this year and his model was exellent and he was also being modest. Your pics are makeshift and real, most guys on CMoN Re-touch theres hiding any inperfections, I do this for a living (maybe not on minis) but on products for very large companies ( I even saw GW staff doing it on minis for GD on the fricken day!!!). My point is Grinder your good! And your Tut is good! Please for the love of god everyone please submit stuff as it is useful and inspirational! Rant over |

| well step 4: highlighting i just do some metal highlights fading from the botom sides, and for the red u go 50/50 scab, blood then straigh blood. and a lil blazing orange in spots. thats prity much it. hope that was helpfull to anyone if not oh well atleast i got my first necron finnished lol ![]() ![]() i think the highlighs went on to thick will probly ad a few more layers of washes but you got the jist of it this will work well with CSM's too.
