| Kriegsmeister ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hey everyone, Heres a tutorial on how to make painting camoflauge quick and easy. First off all methods mentioned here I did with an airbrush but you can get a similar effect with good masking and drybrushing. I'll make a note of how to do this for each step with a *. I'll be using my Death Korps Baneblade as an example but the method can be used for any vehicle. Important Note: Make sure you have good venilation and air circulation before airbrushing or spraypainting! The Basics: First off prime you tank of choice with either white or black. I prefer black but if you're doing an all grey camo it can be a bit difficult to get a good coat in one swipe with an airbrush or it might take a really long time drybrushing. Example: ![]() Next choose your desired camo scheme and colors. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Find a picture if its in a book somewhere or if you made it up draw it. If you can't draw it chances are you can't paint/design it. Step by Step: Ok once you've gotten the basics down its time to start painting preperation. I'll be using a masking technique that works particularly well with disruption patterns. For concealment patterns you can just bypass these few steps and start painting however you see fit for concealment. Step 1: After the model has been primed its time for the basecoat. This is going to be the main color of the tank. As a general rule I go by what I see the most off in the pattern. *If you're not using an airbrush this is the most ardous part of painting as you need to paint the whole thing with your basecoat to get a good finish. Example: Here the basecoat is Catachan Green. ![]() Step 2: Let the basecoat dry thoroughly. The next step is to apply pattern over the basecoat. Most disruption patterns usually have 2-3 colors so for the next color choose the one you see the second most of. To apply the pattern requires some masking. Get some masking tape/painters tape or anything that peels off pretty easily so you can remove it when you're done. Example: Blue Painting tape. ![]() Step 3: Cut/tear the shape of the pattern you're going for from the tape. Apply this to the tank. Then go airbrush the second color on over the masked pattern. *Drybrush evenly over the tape. Be gentle so that you dont pull off the tape accidently and screw up your pattern if you want a rigid one. Otherwise just use the tape as a "guideline." Example: Step 4: If you are doing 2 colors peel off the tape after the second color has dried and you're done! If you plan to do a three or more color pattern leave the tape on and put a new layer on over it that way you wont paint over the color you already masked off. Example: ![]() ![]() Now all you have left to do is detailing and you'll have a really cool camo-ed tank to game with, courtesy of the 501st Death Korps of Krieg. Any questions feel free to ask and if you need specific help PM me and I'll see what I can do for you. Baron

| Kriegsmeister ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've done that for my paintball gear using the same method but leaves and twigs dont work so well in a disruption pattern. I'll probably put up another one or add to this one for concealment.

Blog Entries: 1 | A quicky, I am in middle of airbrushing my Wave Serpants, I have done the base coat and highlighted them with it. Now I'm ready to mask for my bone parts. I have lo-tac masking tape, is that going to be OK? I dont want to wreck my handy work! (This is my first AB job)

| Kriegsmeister ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well i'm sure they can be very expensive if you get a high quality one. I have a pretty basic one I bought from Hobbytown USA and use the compressed air cannisters made by Badger. The whole deal cost me about $80 iirc. I'm nto really an expert on the subject but I'm sure you can find a pretty reasonable one if you look.

Blog Entries: 1 | Mine cost a similar price in £, I got a compressor as well, so far I have spent 2 hours bascoating and highlight 3 tanks, so for me it's worth it! here's were I got my stuff from (UK) RDG Tools Online ltd AIR BRUSHES AND COMPRESSORS when you look at the price of the compressor (£40) it's not bad when you consider the cannisters cost £12 for a big one, and the advantage I have found is you can control the pressure on the compressor.

| Kriegsmeister ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Compressers are much more expensive over here... and I can buy the cannisters for about 6-8 USD so it works. They last quite a long time too. But like anything else you have to personalize your own kit.

| The Munkey Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Nice work BvL!!! I saw this earlier but I guess never commented on it!!! I looked at it again for the "Ornsworld fursts" tank patterns. Im gonna use more "clashing and flashy" colors instead of realistic colors as you have done. I find realistic colors actually harder to do!!! Thanks again!!!
