Blog Entries: 4 | Just a quick run down on Banded Leg Armour, Shoulder pads and altenative Helmets. I will add more indepth material with photos very soon (also more shoulderpads and other designs) Banded Leg Armour File down the original leg armour and give it a squared profile, the cut three rectangles of thin plasticard (these will be the leg bands) trim a semi circle in the first one to allow space for the foot to fit throu and glue it to the front flat face only (this is important as if you try and do too many faces at once it will just "ping" off-patience is key),once the first face is dry then do the second wait for it to dry, then the third. The second and third bands are just repetion of this principle. Once all the bands are on and dry trim the square prorfile away from the back of the plasticard strips so it meets the profile of the leg, finally use a fine grade file and file the very back edge of the armour to smooth out the large steps between the plates. Shoulder pads Glue the arm to the body of the marine, when dry cut a thin strip of plasticard into an oblong glue this one small bit at a time so it sits "square" to the body of the marine over the shoulder, when it is all in place an dry take a second strip and this time cut a slight angle on two of the sides (short sides to one long side), keeping these angles square to the body again glue the new plate in positon a bit at a time (this angle will move the plate slightly out of line with the last one give the angled effect),once this is dry repeat the process again but this time cut a greater angle so the plate is even more out of linethis time almost horizontal to the body. you can do this with more or less plates dependin on your own choice! Helmets Take a normal Marine helmet, cut of the pipes that lead to the front grill of the mask. File of the top crest as well. Carefully file down the front of the entire lower helm so it is flat and level with the upper part (so nothing sticks out) cut a small cross from plasticard and glue the lower leg of the cross onto the lower part of the helm making sure the two arms of the cross are level with the upper parts of the eyes. once it is dry glue down the remaining arms one at a time letting each one dry. Once dry trim of any excess plasticard and trim the underneath parts of the crosses arms so the match the desired profile of the eyes. If desired cut notches in the ends of each part of the cross. For an altenative "knights mask" use a a second wide lower arm on the cross shape to cover the lower mask entirely and trim it to the desired shape-grills and vents can be added with drills and knife blades. |
