Default basing tutorial

1-i first painted the entire base with bestial brown and glued a piece of brass onto the base. the piece i use is the shot up piece of scrap metal, i bent it around a pen to curl it up.

2-then i added a wash of brown ink to the brass. ( i erased the pics for step 1 by accident but you get the picture right)

3-next i chose a resin piece from the kit, found a spot for it on the base, filed it down a bit primered it then glued it on.

4-next i added sand.

5-when everything was dried i drybrushed it with bestial brown and graveyard earth.

6-next a drybrush of bubonic brown, and snakebite leather is applied.

7-then a light brybrush of bleached bone to finish it up.

8-now i did the details of the resin piece by painting the rocks codex grey, and the grenade with catachan green, and also boltgun metal around the bullet holes on the brass piece, then another light drybrush to the rocks and grenade.

9-my final step i added static grass and a piece of slate from the basing kit and im done.

question.......I use basing sand (made by GW ) but I do all of the basing after the model is assembled and on the base. I do this because I found affixing the model done and painted to the compleated base sometimes affects the detailing on the base itself if it is painted. does anyone else have this problem. if not I use modeling glue on the base and spread it with a toothpick then dip the mini to the ankles in the sand jar. this covers all the glue with sand. then I take off the excess with my finger and if need be a old modeling knife. is this a horrible idea. or also if there a easy way to prevent damage to the paint on the mini or base if I affix after

there no real right or wrong way to doing a base or a mini as well. i like doing it this way cause its easier for me. i dont like gluing the model to the base first then adding the sand cause if i get extra glue around the boots i hate to scrape it off. but other then that dude do it the way you want to.

Now what I have seen is sometimes people do the base first with a plasticcard "footprint" on the base. They place a piece of plastic about the same size as the foot of the model to glue on. then base the model and the plastic footprints stand out over the sand making for a solid mounting for the models. This eliminates the sand being taken off the base and helps lessen scraping due to glue.
