How To Build A Brass Scorpion - 40K Terra

Hello!

The biggest model I've ever built is without a doubt the most fun to build also.
So how do you start on the Brass Scorpion?
first things first: you need two Defilers. duh!

other essentials: modeling knife, clippers, plastic glue, green stuff, you know the drill.

The Tail
of course, the most noticable and unique thing of the scorpion is the tail. the tail is built using two defiler claws and your scorpion cannon.

you only need to use one of the back halves of the claw that attaches to the defiler itself (on the left here) and two of the other ones.

you'll notice that the front half of the claw has on one side a slot were the claws themselves go in and on the back a single gear-like device. what you will need to do is cut the back gear-like thing on one claw so that the holes will line up directly.

The Gun
now if youre going to do it as i did, with the hellblaster volley gun, heres how to do that.
if you are going to use the two-twin linked reaper auto cannons, as it is in the picture, I'll explain that later.
for the volley gun, glue it together as normal but dont put on the wooden back on it (duh)
cut a slot in the claw were the gun will go. the gun is going to be lined up with three barrels along the top. cut it so that the back of the barrels will line up flush.

glue the gun on now. as for the cover, i used two of the leg covers side by side. one side is bigger then the other, so make sure you did it evenly. the bigger sides should go over the gun so it'll fit

to put the cover on, you'll need to cut the blades off of the top. i put them back on in the slits of the cover.

now glue the two halves together

i stuck the back of a thin back of a file through the center hole so it wouldnt move around.

The Body
take the two defiler bodies. cut the reactor portion off of the front one right behind the last leg socket. file it down so they line up straight and flush, but dont glue together yet. you need to put on the demolisher cannon and hellfire cannons first

youre going to have a big divot in the middle. i used a claw covering to cover it up.

Body Guns
the hellfire cannons are easy. take the heavy flamers, assemble as normal. cut off the nozzle. now take four of the chaos weapon muzzles and glue them on UPSIDE DOWN the hellfire guns are going to be glued on the bottem of the front body upside down, so with the muzzles upside down on the gun, it looks right side up when finished. i used green stuff. they shifted when i took the picture, but i put em back.

now for the demolisher cannon
cut off the circular portion of it like so

shave off parts of the front body and the demolisher cannon so that it fits in snug and flush. and the barrel decorations like normal.
glue the cannon on, then glue the two body halves together

now to attach the tail. cut off portions of the ball thing on the back so that it will fit snug. if you used any metal in the tail (a metal gun for example) you should pin it. you may want to magnetize it as well.

Legs n claws
ok now! youre almost done.
for the legs, glue them and the claws on like normal. you will have five sockets.
1(rear, tail)-2-3-4-5(front, claws)
i glued mine in like this:
1-X-3-4-claws
with that break not in the back, it balances it out so that the tail or the claws dont make it tip forward.

why GW sucks
now when i got my second defiler today, IT HAD NO LEGS
none at all. i got two body sprues and no leg sprues. but because i had an extra body sprue, i took the extra claws and made them into legs by cutting off the blades and bottem claw like this

The Brass Scorpion

now youre done, add in any khorny decorations you might want. i used a sheild from the WFB mounted khorne lord on mine, as well as a khorne icon on top of the gun.
this is the biggest thing ive ever built.

its four carnifexes!
a landraider and a half!

its insane. happy building, and of course never forget.

good tutorial, but if you don't mind me saying, you left far more of the body pieces than was needed, you've got an extra set of leg sockets that look strange and defunct. If you'd cut off the front of the rear body piece then you wouldn't have this problem.

That point aside, excellent model!

no, they have 6 plus the tail. and the mandibles. so yea, 8 i guess.

ok, i messed that up a bit and forgot to talk about that:

since i didnt get the legs, i could only use 6 sockets. however, with 2 sets of legs normally you will have 8 legs to put in there. though its an extra set, all you have to do to do it normally is to cut off another socket, then cover it up somehow (a claw or leg cover...or two)

6 plus 2 legs modified into claws, mandibles are jaws- i hate to be picky but then again you've learn't a fact you can amaze your friends with

Heres another one- Scorpions dont have tails...that 'tail' is more correctly the lower abdomen. Wow!

so i played a test game with it today and WOW

my new favorite model. ever.
3k points eaters vs. black templars. the templar player used 'suffer not the unclean' with an armoured spearhead strat. he rino rushed me while I, uncharacteristicly, stayed put in the buildings covering the table. however, the dogs were let loose. i sent the scorp towards his armoured spearhead (three land raiders, in this case 2 crusaders 1 normal)
the scorp demolished almost an entire crusader squad in the shooting phase with its cannon and hellmaw guns (cannon is heavy 10, hellmaw is normal template. both are s6 >>AP3<<) and then stomped the rest to death. over the following turns he rampaged through their army until getting into combat with their command squad and sword bretheran. the sheet amount of powerfists finally brought it down.
however, now the fun part. 3d6 strength 9 ap1 explosion!! rolled a 9. not bad, killed almost everything it touched!!

its a monster! and ive unleashed it on 40kTerra! mwahahahaha!!!

That is easily fixed though, if it is an issue to you.. Xacto/jewelers saw off a section of the torso and re-glue the halves!
