A few questions

Ok I have just got the imperial guard codex and am a bit confused about a few things.

The restricted troops the
heavy weapons platoon and special weapons squad what exactly do they uncloak. I have a rough idea of what the heavy weapons platoon is thos units under the command squad.

What does special weapons squad unlock?

If I don't take either can I still use all the models under the command squad for just my command squads.

Do I have to have a command squad every 2 imperial guard platoon.

Also can I take 5 infantry squads and only 1 command squad.

Also would I have to take 3 command squads if I wanted to do a battle of.

! hq and 2 troops. Because 2-5 infantry squads needs a command aquad?

it unlocks the ability to field the Special Weapons squad choice in the Command Platoon(the HQ choice).

Basically it works as, you have an HQ command squad.
Then you have your first Infantry Platoon, this includes a command squad lead by a JO and 2-5 squads of guardsmen.
For your second Troop choice you can have any of; a second Infantry Platoon, an Armoured Fist squad, a unit of Conscripts.

Also would I have to take 3 command squads if I wanted to do a battle of HQ and 2 troops. Because 2-5 infantry squads needs a command squad?

Only if you choose to field two Infantry Platoons

Ok what I meant is I am taking a docterine army.

If I do not take the restricted troops heavy weapons platoon and special weapons platoon can i take those support units underneath the command squad still

The fire support and Sentinal Support squads are useable without useing doctorine points. But you still have to pay for the Special weapons squad because it is on the restricted troops list. But there loads of drop troop fun

1) restricted troops: special weapon squads allows your command platoon to take 0-2 special weapon squads as part its squad allowance.
- restricted troops: heavy weapon platoons allow you to take the heavy support choice option!
you *do not* need the heavy weapon platoon doctrine to take the support squads normally allowed in your command platoon!!!

2) each infantry platoon consists of;
1 junior officer & staff
2-5 infantry squads + unit upgrades.
so, your platoons must take at least two full 10-man infantry squads, but may include upto 3 more squads if you so choose. (giving you anywhere from 25-55men per troops choice!)

3) yes. 1 junior officer + staff and 5 infantry squads will give you 1 troops choice. you will then need one more to fullfill your minimum troops choices requirement.

4) as pointed out, only if you want 2 infantry platoons for your minimum FOC requirements...
a minimum guard army will look like;
1hq platoon (officer + staff & 0-5 support squads)
1 infantry platoon (JO + staff & 2-5 infantry squads)
1 infantry platoon OR 1 armoured fist squad OR 1 conscript platoon
