Default Has anyone used Leman Russes with Heavy Flamers

If you have, then what armies is it good against?

I woudl say against hoarde armies, in all honesty. Blow holes in them w/ the battle cannon, and when it gets too close, unload with full salvo! the blast of the cannon and the template of the flamers make for quite a VICIOUS little device.

righto, think of all the roasted bugs... it's also a nice last-ditch effort defense gun i guess, because of it's pretty template...and auto hits are always nice ! :]

Works well against bugs for sure...but also against those pesky traitor IG and orks...and if you get lucky and you face an opponent that feilds a Kroot heavy Tau force...they work well against the massed squads of birdthings too

i use heavy flamer sponsons on my inquisitor's demolisher... the main gun needs to be close anyways to fire as it has only a moderate 24" range. this means my tank is typically right in the thick of it, leading the main assault!

add to this it's side armour of 13 and better rear armour of 11 and the demolisher makes a wicked line-breaker against any opponent!

cheers!

basically as oong as the army isnt MEQ then heavy flamers rock. I know im adding 1 to the Knight's termie squad alongside the assault cannon.
With its Str.5 even SoBs should fear it as it ignores cover and wounds on a 2+....probably why they use so many.

any template weapon is still deadly to MEQ's even if it doesn't have the ap to bypass their fancy armour... you're still looking at a large number of auto-hits which from the heavy flamer will wound them on 3's. with 2 sponsons that can always move and fire, you can catch quite a few models - especially if your opponent has tried to hug cover and bunched everyone up!

also keep in mind that many MEQ armies still have a few units which are 4+ or worse armour save;
- scouts/neophytes
- servitors
- lesser daemons
- repentia
- =I= storm troopers
- =I= retinues
- scarabs (who'll take double hits against template/blast weapons!)

so it's always worth it in my book to pack at least a couple of templates in your force!

cheers!

dead on Stitch...I use em in my WG squads and am including them on the Forge Breker for just that reason...makes for a wicked pre-assault shooting phase...especially when you have sufficient range and proper squad support

MEq = marine equivalent. basically, 3+ saves and high toughness.

just be sure not to accidently leave yourself out of assault range because you had too much fun burning things!

cheers!

I've used them on my Demolishers against Tau in cityfights. I went with them because they were cheaper and could flush out troops. They get used rarely but if you've ever used a heavy flamer against the right troops then you know one day it'll be worth it.

i used em with my armored company with the expert sponson gunners doctrine. otherwise, i tend to leave bolters on. pie plated do pretty well, even if the oppenent gets hsi cover save. However, i do run a chimera that has twin heavy flamers, and that has caught a couple people off guard.

In the codex before last [that would be the one with a bunch of guardsmen pouring out a trench] we had the opition to take Heavy Flamer Sponsons, I mangaed to let an opponent class my sponsons as HF for a Game, and in my opinion, it was worth it.

It keep his troops at bay as my Tanks rumbled around blowing things up
