Default quick question: exterminators?

okay...i think russ exterminators are usually FW tanks, i'd figure that they'd require opponent's permission to use. am i correct?

ergh.

in most 'friendly' games you shouldn't have too many problems using an exterminator, but it's still a good idea to make sure your opponent doesn't mind you using one!
personally, i can't honestly see any level-headed player not letting you use your exterminator as long as you have the rules for it on hand...
(it's always a good idea to point out too that as a guard player, your exterminator is only BS3! unlike the space puppies BS4 version!!!)

for tournament play though, you'd have to check with the event organiser to see if they will allow forgeworld rules...

cheers!

Default Erm...

Though technically i suppose you wont need permission.

Though if the other Player(s) don’t want you to use it, you should try to reach a reasonable compromise.

That’s my opinion

well no.
you ALWAYS need permission, just that sometimes your in a gaming group/club and your club rule is "sure ok w/e"

tournies: GW probably wont allow it, RT might

Whenever you use FW products, you always need the permission of your opponent.

I'm pretty sure the same goes for any Index Astartes, White Dwarf, Chapter Approved or any list redos printed in the aforementioned. unless specifically stated that they can be used this season

okay great thanks guys. i'm not worried about tournaments because i doubt i'll be going to them for a good long time. but just pick-up games, i take it that telling your opponent/asking for permission is the way to go.
thanks again.

Anything that is not in a codex (and the most recent codex as well) will not be allowed in a GW tournament
Home made versions of codex items (ie:drop pods-they are in the Space Marine codex) will be allowed so long as you make it clear what the item is supposed to be (so it cannot be confused with another item) and it contains only GW parts (so no Mechwarrior or Warmachine parts in there).

Doesn't a model have to be over half GW product to use in tournaments.
And no LOTR bits can be used.

That's the way it was in the tournament I was at.

the russ exterminator is a full gw model! and as forgeworld is a division of games workshop, any forgeworld bitz are fine for tournaments... (such as extra armour add-ons, chapter/legion specific doors and other 'codex' choices such as vindicators & exorcists!)

cheers!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

No Permission is needed at all!

Look in the Imperial Armour Vol. 1 it states "The Leman Russ Exterminator can be in a Imperial Guard army as a Heavy Support Choice"

As long as you have legal rules for them (the printable version on GW Armoured Company List would do just fine) then you dont need any help.

Trust me I had 3 in my army KICK SOME MAJOR ARSE!

But you dont need permission because it counts as a regular Heavy Support slot. You meet all the requirements needed to field that piece of machinery. Luckily the only requirements are having legal rules, and enough heavy support slots.

it seems like its not clear to everyone the legality of exterminators. just to make sure, i think i'll magnetize my guns, keep a copy of the rules with me, and make sure my opponents know about them beforehand :]

That is probably the safest way. Plus I love the benefit you get when you magnetize things!

well, for one-off games only a true git would ever argue against you using one! provided you bring all the relevent rules and such, it's pretty bad sportsmanship imho to not allow someone to take something as simple as an exterminator! (consider this; the space puppies still have theirs and its BS4 - not BS3 like the guard one )

for tournaments however, it's best to ring up the tourny organisers and ask wether or not they will allow forgeworld rules like exterminators!

cheers!
