| I would like to start using Rough Riders in my IG army. I just have one problem, fluff wise they dont fit. I run an Urban style army, paint scheme wise, and having some guys on horse back with arab style clothes just does not fit the bill. I was thinking of modifying some for my own style of Urban Rough Riders, and was thinking of mounting some cadian models on some sort of mortorcycles. But i just cant seem to find some that are small enough for them to look of the correct dimensions. Anyone have any suggestions as to where i can look for some Bikes to use? |

| Although these aren't motterbikes how about Spiders? You can use the Spider riders from warhammer goblins.

| Banned | for a stat - they dont have to be atillan or tallarn rough riders - convert the riders to match your infantry - that will already tie them into the army if you really dont think they match the fluff/theme/style of your army - dont use them! but they are cool, so probably will ![]() like Grimnar said, try experiment with steeds - many people use the new empire pistolier steeds, which are a bit bigger than the old ones. i use the fat (dark elf) cold ones for my LatD rough riders, all nurglified up (riders are cadians) a lot of people make motorbikes which would fit in the urban setting quite wel, but they are generally expensive to make. here they are hope this helps |

| Also, another about bikes is that when most people see bikes, they think the bike rules (special rules for bike models) not the beasts and calvary rules, so make sure to point them out to your opponents that they are Rough Riders.

Blog Entries: 1 | i heard something a while back about a guy mounting them on hover boards make from 2 round bases stuck together, although that wasn't very imperium-esk. i've even seen someone model a bunch of cadians on rollerblades!?! funny as hell but again not very fluffy. heres a link i just found with a google search for a rough rider conversion that should work out a little cheaper than the one on the gw site. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?im...%3Den%26sa%3DN

| what i do for my bikes involves some very hard to come by bikes. I use bikes from the old metal space marines and squats. I use the sentinel driver legs and cut out the console it fits like a charm. after that its pretty cut and dry. I love lances and horses in the future but i cant buy lances and bikes doesn't look right. If i can add a question to this string. what kind of weapons do you think would make a good representation for hunting lances when you have guys on a bike.

| Hmm, good question. Lances are made for horses with their max speed around 45 mph. Well, I guess if your on a bike your still not traveling over 60. Maybe a shorter lance? I mean the whole idea behind the explosive tip hunting lance is to impale your target. Then it becomes useless. |

| Ok, I have another question for you guys. How many do you field per squadron? Is there a magical number? Also what kind of tactics do you use? Keep them behind the line as a QRF sort of force? |

| Banned | i use seven, but theyre nurgle ones so i dont think that counts (i have 2 units)i keep them ehind my own lines, ready to counter attack. if theres enough terrain and the opposin force doesnt have much shooting, i may move forwar with them, but its a hard call - theyre big models (especially a unit of them) and are aasy targets |

Blog Entries: 4 | Use some of the old Marine scouts on bikes models -use a few guard bits and they make quite good "modern" rough riders. Leave the bolt guns and front armour off to give the bikes a less boxy Space Marine look

| Soldaten ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yea I use rough riders while at the same time maintaining a fluff siege army style. The trick really is to match them up with your infantry. Boy it was sure fun converting steel legion rough riders . Then I used the Brettonnian Horses and painted the horse's cloaks to sorta match the scheme as well

| what i have done is i took the silver helm horses and used the high elf legs and just modifieded everything else to be cadian. i add lasguns to the left side of the horse to hide the elven leggings and i put the elf shield on the right side to hide the leggings as well. i also took many of the packs that come with vehicles and heavy support squads to give them more of that teddy roosevelt rough riders look. as for the hunting lance i just took the elf lance and glued grenades onto the ends. i use a squad of 6 (a good even number). i use 6 because more often then naught you see squads of 5 terminators. and with the lance they make pretty good termie hunters. |

| pertaining to squad size; i'd say 6 is best. it gives you a good amount of dice, (12 on the charge), but the squad should still be compact enough to take as much advantage of any cover as possible... best of all, 6 is an even number so it's perfect for maximising your scoring unit potential! (hey, you never know when your rough riders will surprise you and 3 or 4 will live through it all! )if you're really paranoid about the horrors of 'rubber lance syndrome', then you can give your veteran sergeant the honorifica for 4 attacks on the charge with his lance! or else if you have the slot to spare, just take a 2nd squad of 6...you might also want to invest in a power toy for the sergeant. it can be handy once the lance is used to have at least a few attacks that still pose a real threat to heavily armoured troops... i've played against many players who use both larger, (8-10), and smaller squads of only 5... - the larger 8-10 man squad is just a huge target. it's not possible to hide them and you can bet that your opponent will make the rough riders a high priority target due to those dreaded hunting lances! in the end, the squad either runs after they suffer 5 or 6 casulties or else there's so few of them left that they accomplish very little and only kill 2-4 enemies at most... - the smaller squads really suffer from the attention of the dice gods... with so few attacks, even when the squad is at full strength, there's very little chance that you can break the enemy... once those lances are used up, the rough riders of corse are just as paltry as those fresh conscripts! cheers!

| Banned | ooh youre using the FW DKoK ones? be careful - you dont want to ruin those! i really hope the cadians look good on those! good luck with the conversion! and while were talking about unit size - i wouldnt go for anything less than 6, prefereably 8-10. any less and theyre useless once they get into combat |

| Man, your not kidding, I just got back from a trip, found out my RR's were in. Now im wondering if I should even touch them, or work them somehow into my Urban Aztec'd theme'd Cadian models. I am kinda scared to touch them too much, as I dont want to mess up those beautiful models. |

| I already have the army, now I just have to see if indeed I can work the DKoK RR's into the look of my Cadian IG. The big problem is I use Die Hards and Iron Discipline which CANNOT be used with Chem-inhalers. Last edited by Grix; 08-21-2007 at 01:34 PM. |
