Default Vindicare Assassin's?

I like the look of these models and they would be useful for the style of game that I usually play. Is there anyway to field these in an IG army without having to get an inquisitor as a leader?

Yeah, have to take the lord as HQ to gain access... May I ask why you chose the vindicare? Usually, performance wise, they are least effective. What makes him shine in your games?

good for stopping combat units advancing through pinning would be my vote.

pinning would be great, except that Ld is hardly a crutch in 40k... most units are Ld8 or 9 with their squad leaders upgraded to vet status. sure you can pick on the UC leader in the squad, but again, so many units still have that base Ld8 that it really doesn't make a huge difference.

now, times i can see a vindicare becoming a god-send;
- picking out those ass-can wielding termies
- picking out a chaos squad's icon bearer
- exarch hunting
- meltagun/flamer/heavy weapon trooper hunting
- setting up for rapid fire baiting

of corse there's loads more uses, but in general the vinidcare requires a lot of luck to be worth his pts... in a guard army, you may as well take either the T2 ratlings or else the 3 snipers allowed in a special weapons squad.

On Bell of Lost Souls they've got a comprehensive Tactica for each Assassin type (the 4 Imperials and the Death Cultists) and they raise some really cool points plus the dirty tricks are excellent and raise the Vindicare to the position of best sniper in the 40K universe and well worth his points...well anyway here the link

EDIT: just read the comments below the Tactica and the Vindicare is now my favourite Assassin! He has the ability to set up game winners, he might not kill enough enemy models to ensure his pts cost, but the amount of disruption he can cause will be sensational.
Looks like its time to dust off my Vindicare and convert up an Inquisitor Lord to accompany the Knights.

under the apoc rules they become quite effective for a group of 6 for 660 pts, but so do eversors for 570 pts

wait under apoc rules you get more than one assassin? how does that work O_O?

Vindicare: GENERALLY still not worth it in my opinion, too many conditions to be "good" in the "average" 40k game. (non-apoc)

my friend uses one. he can kill my plasmas pretty reliably, but whenever its an important shot, say, to finish off my senior officer, or to penetrate the rear armor of one of my tanks, (specially when using the special bullets) he always rolls a 1 to hit. Basically, he's the joke of my friends army. Never dies though. Moslty because no1 really feels he;s worht shooting at.

If you can have 6 vindicares, go for it.
I stand by my opinion that 1 isn't much good though.

why is it all the space wolves have no control over their saliver?

i must admit, i haven't looked at those two yet, but feel it wise to study the Wulfen one since there is a shifty looking sub-human player in our gaming group.

Oh... Think of the wulfen guard as Wolf Guard of 13th company. 0 BS, but WS 5. And you can have as many packs of the wulfen guard as you want... Dead Nasty...
