Griplion's poll and april painting WIP

alright all,

i need to quickly figure out which unit i'm gonna paint for the april painting comp. choices are.....

1. Dire avenger squad -5 man and exarch - total 6 models

2. Iron hands squad - 5 man and sgt - total 6 models

3. 1k sons squad - 5 man and asp sorcerer - total 6 models

i'll try to get pics of each current status tonight but i'm heading out here in a few mins.

alright folks heres the current status on the 3 choices.

i started to do a bit of work on the IH and DA before i realized i hadn't taken pics yet so i stopped.

Dire Avengers:


Iron hands:


1k sons: turns out i only have 4 basic guys not painted (i could strip 1 more guy to make it the same size as the others )



well theres your choices.

so far the DA are ahead on the count.

and no particular "sub" chapter or clan in mind for the iron hands. but if i do them they need to have a sufficient Ad Mec feel to them as well.

I also say go with Eldar. They'll stand out a bit more from the other marine squads. One can only judge so much power armor before going crazy.

so far i've got a bunch of votes for eldar and 1 for IH. so dire avengers it will be.

slight update for ya'll. havent really gotten much done due to work and other commitments but here's what i've gottne done so far.

I really like the blue metallic look, you better get crackin', still got a lot of work to do.

Thats a cool blue color. I painted LoTR Dwarves like that.

yeah i kinda wanted to go that way but i did make this a poll and majority went with eldar for some variance.....meh...


@ prince - so far the blue has 3 coats (i did the blue first originally and realized i forgot to do the base armor creases in the Sequin Black first so i went back over them with straight Folk Art Metallic Sequin Black)

for the 1st 2 coats i mixed 3 paints - Folk Art Metallic Blue Sapphire, Metallic Sequin Black and Apple Barrell True Navy.

the last coat (so far) was just the sapphire blue and true navy. after i do up some trims i'll hit it again with straight sapphire blue as a highlight and them knock out the gems.

and i'm thinking of trying out some free hand on the banner but not sure what designs to do. any ideas???? Mart or Steve? i know you 2 are big eldar fans.

Well, as I said on MSN do freehand if you can, if you cant then dont, you can make a good paintjob look very average with a duff freehand! If you can draw go for it! Use a rune design and jazz it up with flames, or stars or such like!

UK people, you can get Saphire blue from here, tho its expensive, it still a bit cheaper than GW as you get a bigger jar

ummm actually its not white. its light grey over a base of black then dark grey...... and the main part of the helmet is just the metallic sequin black. it has the metallic flakes just like the sapphire blue so its gets a really good sheen in light to do auto highlights!!!!
