sob question

hey all,

i dont play sob so i need to ask a question.

i've got a game coming up to hopefully teach someone about the value of 1k sons. he plays what he claims to be an effective 1750 sob list with 3 20sisters strong troops squads. correct me if i'm wrong but isnt he severely limiting his capabilities when he could brake them down into 10sisters and give a transport to each with flamer and hvy flamer. then he would have more faith points and more tactical flexibility.

I think he is limiting himself. If he did have six different squads of ten, instead of three squads of 20, you'd have to split your fire to combat all the threats. With only three large squads it's not that hard to direct all your fire to one squad per turn and either annihilate or break the entire squad. He's seriously hindering himself.

I totally agree with you.

As you said by spliting up his siters in groups of 10 he could field way more special weapons, could take transports, and could take a few more faith points by adding veteran superiors.

They way he has things now he really takes a hit when it comes to down to Acts of Faith, and really thats what a sister army is all. Not only does he limit himself from the total number of faith points his army would have, but he makes it all but impossible for his squads to perform certain AoF altogether.

Slogging across the battle field kills people and huge squads absorb casualties much better without moral tests.

But yes it is sorta a bad idea...unless he has some other things in his army...I'd want to see the full list before judging.

You have a point.

With all the points he saved without having to pay for Vet. Superiors, additional special weapons, or transports, he would have quite a few extra points to spend on other more specialized faithful units. It really is hard to judge without seeing the whole picture.

i'll try to get a complete list of what he's playing but it probably wont be before i face him. looking at possibly playing him sunday afternoon. i was talking to another buddy about it couple days ago and i was warned of high amounts of twisting of rules or flat out cheating......i'd like to give the guy benefit of the doubt but its coming from more than one trusted source....

we'll see if he even still wants to battle and i'll give you guys a play by play if i can. i'll try to remember my camera too and get some pics.

my advice here Grip (which i am sure you would do anyway) is to ask politely is he tries to pull anything that seems out of the ordinary.

the special rules for the sisters seem to be rather complex to the outside point of view - you would be well within your rights to ask to read the rules - apart from anything else, he may simply not 'get' the rules himself and a third person point of view may just be what he needs.

i the meantime if you happen accross anything that you need clarifying, the guys here know their stuff
