Default Weekend Challenges!

Steve, myself and Rellik will be running weekend challenges. They are not full scale comps or anything, more bits of fun really!

The aim of them is to help people push themselves and hopefully improve there skill, provide Terra with lovely pics, and also have a laugh and earn some reps in the mean time.

They are more take them or leave them items really, so dont feel undr any pressure, but it may be fun to enter the odd one here and there!

So good luck don't panic, and enjoy!!

Indeed, these are basic challenges of your painting and modeling abilities.
the first was the "Build an Objective Marker" Challenge and it turned out very well.

It works like this:
Thursday evenings I will post the challenge. You have until 12:00 GMT (or when i get to work on monday mornings) to complete the challenge.

You get a rep point for completing the challenge and 1 more if you are voted the best display of that challenge.

Sit back and enjoy and feel free to participate or PM me with any suggestions for challenges, but remember, these are focused on PAINTING and MODELING.

Ok... I'll air this now.

After discussing doing these with Erus for quite a long time... and where some of the contention occurred is that the mini comps shouldn't have things such as rep points.

Is there a reason this changed? Most people aren't bothered by having the reps or banners. That's why they are intended for the main comps... especially important now the imperial credits are coming in.

The idea of the mini comps was to provide a small challenge to fill time between the main comps and to provide the community with a fun push to help complete their forces, terrain, etc, etc.

Just thoughts.

but until the imperial credits actuall make an appearance rep will be the prize and as it is in such small amounts, it will not really effect anything.

thanks though.

It's not lots of reps, like in the main comps, just small amounts like for doing a tut or something and as a thank you for people entering.

OK well I enjoyed the OBJ marker comp royally and think it is a good thing. Even WITHOUT A PRIZE!!! But the prize is nice too but I think little things like this is good for the site, a great break from modeling a army (big one here as I get IG burnout painting so many of the same guys over and over), and breeds competition between rivals...I would do it reguardless of the perks myself.

but now to the perks, I leave that up to the movers and shakers of the site and while I enjoy a nice little tidbit of reward, I think the true reward is doing well.

2 Rep....thats only the same amount some one would get anyway if myself or Steve were to click the Rep Button on one of their posts. 5+ is when your talking about the big comps in my opinion.

i would like to have an open thread for suggestion for comps made please. also, since i am heading into a two week FCAT and finals week stretch (as i belive most people are) i would suggest all weekend comps be suspended until school is out of the way (at least the big things)

They will be run every week, if you are to busy then fine, you'll just have to skip that one! Thanks for your entry into the first one Marcus, much aprecciated!

If you have any suggestions for subject matter stick it in here, remember these are short term projects, so need to be pretty simple!

Hope that helps

well since they're only weekend comps its not like they're designed for everyone to be able to enter (if they were they'd never get off the ground as someone would always be busy on a certain weekend). It just means you have to miss the mini-comp when your too busy, after all its not like there wont be another one...

EDIT: damn it Mart stop pre-empting me

i feel like every week is...kind of often ! what if you run out of ideas to have them on !??! haha. maybe once every 2 weeks ? that way there are 26 of these, as opposed to the proposed 52 ?

this is a cool idea though, nice filler between official/large large large competitions..

I've talked to erus about it and he seems to like the idea (i think he was a little distracted when i talked to him though)

Also ikky has been consulted.

So long as we have their buy in that's great. My concerns were based on the fact I know Erus was opposed to repping the minis due to such projects as imperial credits and the like to come in.

If we have their buy in it's all gravy and I can't wait for the first challenge I can get involved in.

I shouldnt think so, it's not like tons of rep will be given, and it is deserved when someone has put out to do something constructive...I think. My only concern once a week may be a bit much, but we can see how it goes and adjust accordingly.

If it's running weekly, which is a cool idea, I think keeping as user awarded rep would be better. I know the rep being handed out is only a token gesture, but tally that up with user awarded rep and it starts to increase a lot.

By the nature of the site we always hand rep out. It's our way in showing our approval of work by our peers.

Shucks I don't mind though either way I'll be entering at the first opportunity I can.
