Default Coaches - who and how

How should we work on coaching?

Start picking people? Or do a pair system? or grouping?

I say random, no reason not to be.......and it avoids the whole "picked last for dodge ball" thing.

Coaches should volunteer, and the be picked from the pool of applicants by a staff decision. Given the size of the event, I doubt anyone will be left out.

Picking them at random is a bad idea and against the ideal behind thecoaches as I wanted them to be veteran gamers advising fellow hoobyists, and 'coaching' them. Not only helpign with goals, but giving advice, tips, etc..

People like Hairy, Nano, Crimslain and others would be ideal, because they are talented modelers and painters. Someone like myself would be a second tier candidate, so to speak, because I do well modeling, but not so much at painting, and would be doing my appointed 'coachee' a dis-service in that area.

don't count yourself out erus! i think one way to do this is set-up a thread in which all the participents can pick say two or three major 'issues' they want their coach to help them with?

for example, i'm a better than average painter, so unless you've won a demon award or come damn close, i doubt there's much help i can get... however, i feel that my converting skills are sorely lacking, as well as my ability to stay on task!
thus i'd really like a coach who's conversion skills are insanely good and who can help crack a whip!

so really, let the coaches play to the entrants weaknesses and this way, everyone will hopefully not only have a great time, but gain more experience in areas they weren't as adept at before hand!

cheers!

Can or will one be a coach as well as a participant. I only ask because each seems rather demanding, coaching would take away from modeling and painting and visa versa.

well i'm withdrawing from the challange as a participant due to a distinct lack of time and money but i'm still more than willing to act as a coach for some of the guys still in the running.

i'd say that we have only a few coaches rather than one for each entrant. 1 coach for every 3-5 gamers sounds about right to me so that things can be kept fairly tight. the coaching team can work together to cover all the participants, assissting each other as and when it's needed.

honestly, i think coaches should be Free-roaming. say 5 or 6 of them volunteers, that coach those who get behind or have trouble in 1 area or some such.

Coaches should work just like the mods, and admins here.

Just as stevie said have a group of people available to be asked about advice, and tips, and making sure that the event is running fine

If a participant wants to solicit themselves to other users they can do that too.

For instance. You pick 6 or 8 people to be available but since Baron Von Lexus and My entry are rather similar we can go to each other for some hobby advice. Poor sucker gave me his SN lol

However some people just works well on their own and dont need to report in to someone.

Ya me and Steel are workign pretty well together right now but I like Stitchs idea about sort of being paired with someone who can help with a specific aspect of the hobby.

On that note I'd like some help with GS and perhaps some really advanced painting techniques.

I really dont think having staff make coach selections for people is needed, if theres 20 participants just put each participant with another be it random or by choice it doesnt matter , but then we could have a few floaters that are not in the challange that can help where needed. That way if say munkey and I are each others coach and we run into a situation where neither of us know how to do something we could just ask 1 of the Floaters.
