Default Vendiles ToXG Thread

Chaos Space Marines, 1,000 points (to start with)

The Nova Legion have been an extremely slow-build army so far. The majority of the army is simply re-painted loyalists, but with plenty of chaos models and chaos-only units such as Spawn and Defilers mixed in.

I've still to work on an army list, but I'll get it done shortly.

The majority of my challenge will be the painting, as a fair number of the models are already built.

EDIT:
1000-point Army List
HQ
Chaos Lord - terminator armour, daemon weapon, personal icon
150 pts

Elites
3x Terminators - pair LCs
100 pts

Troops
9x Khorne Bezerkers - personal icon, plasma pistol
Skull Champion - power fist
Rhino - 2x twin-linked bolters
310 pts

9x CSM - Icon of Chaos Glory, plasmagun
Aspiring Champion - plasma pistol, power weapon
Rhino - twin-linked bolters
255 pts

Heavy Support
4x Havocs - 4x Missile Launcher
Aspiring Champion - plasma pistol
185 pts

Army total: 1,000 points

EDIT: or maybe not considering TOXG doesn't start properly till June.

EDIT 2: Cos I can't stick them into the first post:

Here's a rough idea of the scheme for the Nova Legion, following the same idea as the Red Corsairs, the colours will vary in positions from unit to unit.

As an extra bit, here's the Nova Lords colour scheme, i.e. from before the chapter turned to chaos.

We need objectives? Guess I'd better go write some down. BTW, you need to update the links in your "Advice to Inquistor players" post.

Right then, I've just posted my June Goals.
I'll have a photo up tomorrow or Friday of what state everything is in before I start the work.

These first four goals of mine are relatively quick and simple. The most important of them is the painting of the first squad, as it will be what finally ties me down to the armys style and look.

Here's the 1K army at the start of ToXG,

the blank bases represent the terminator squad and the terminator lord.

like the old school rhinos! you don't see many around anymore...

what colour scheme are you going to go with? also, have you considered using the foundations + new washes to do the majority of your work? they make painting soooooo quick and painless!

cheers!

I will indeed be using the foundation and washes (once I get some and work out which will work best for me). The yellow marines in that photos are ones which have already received a coat of Iyanden Darksun foundation paint.
The colour scheme is yellow and black, in the same varied style as the Red Corsairs, with silver rather than brass for metals.
I've still to work out which yellow I'll be putting over Iyanden, but it'll probably be golden yellow.

golden yellow will darken down your marines a bit, while sunburst will add a bit more brightness... it's really just a simple question of what kind of feel you want the models to have!
also, try hitting your model with a coat of gryphonne sepia once you've got the yellow highlight done. it'll bring everything together quite nice-like!

and just think, in 2 weeks, you won't even need a paintbrush for your basecoats either as the spray gun, (aka 'hand flamer!') will be out!!! (yep, we've got ours and we've been playing with it rather alot!)

cheers!

Look forward to seeing the nova marines, i like the fact that you picked a chapter that you dont see much of, was there any particular reason you choose them?

hey, the hand flamer works great! (once us monkies figured it out at least...)
but for the price, it does a great job of basecoating your models for you... nice, even and smooth. plus the flamer works with the new washes too.

cheers!

hmmmmmm... lets see what you can do with this army,(pause) teammate!

@ stitch: my local red shirt was going around pretending to flame models and people in random games(in fact in one game he used a heavy flamer on some guardsmen and he actually made them die!)

Actually my chapter is called the Nova Lords, not the Nova Marines - which are a pre-existing chapter. Except that now the Nova Lords chapter has fallen to chaos, they've renamed themselves the Nova Legion.
Although it is actually in their fluff that it is believed by the inquisition that their gene-seed was created from a cocktail of Imperial Fists and Nova Marines gene-seed.

I've been wondering if its really worth getting that though, I mean, surely I could just use any old airbrush instead and it wouldn't have a GW-sized mark-up on its price?

Ah, yes, having looked at my paint pots again, I did actually mean to say sunburst rather than golden yellow. Cheers for all the advice though stitch.

well, the hand flamers is only $40(can), and it's pretty good quality for the price... the main thing is it needs cleaning as you use it just like a regular paint brush, and you really need to make sure it's fully clean after every use.
it's not an airbrush though - it's a spray gun. airbrushes will still work better and thus give you better results, but you're paying for it as any decent quality airbrush is more $$$ than the new spray gun...
for it's cost, it does a good job of eliminating your basecoating stage! (and i admit, i'm a lazy fether so i'm definately getting one!)

i really like your background too! are you going to make the nova legion/nova lords a suspected 13th or 21st founding chapter?!

cheers!

I'm super lazy as well, so I guess I will just give in and buy canned air from GW =/

I can't for the life of me recall what's special about the 13th founding atm, but no, they certainly aren't 21st cursed founding. I've never actually given them a founding number, all I have that goes that far back into their history is the speculation about their gene-seeds origins and that they had a sister-chapter, the Knights Pacificus. Well, and the following;

It is believed that the creation of the Nova Lords chapter was an attempt to create a chapter similar to the Black Templars in their crusading nature, but with a stronger command chain and better levels of cross-chapter organisation, as well as diligently keeping within the strictures of the Codex Astartes, unlike the Black Templars.
However, once the inquisition had let the chapter off on free reign, inevitably over the centuries the chapter swelled due to its crusading nature, just like the Black Templars.
While this part of the ideal behind their creation had failed, the command structure and strong unity felt across the entire chapter blossomed to such a degree that other members of the Inquisition and other space marine chapters began to get the feeling that a Nova Lord would place his loyalty to his brother marines above and beyond his loyalty to the Emperor. However such was the continuing success of the chapter that it was taken to be a minor quirk of the chapter, like those possessed by hundreds of other chapters, so minor as to be ignorable.

So yeah, ultimately it would be this minor quirk that would cause the entire chapter to fall to chaos so readily, their loyalty to their commanders and brothers being more important than their oaths to serve the Emperor. That along with a power hungry Chapter Master and the help of the radical Inquisitor Gabrent.
