Default Red Shirts at Your Store

We set up types for the kids, lets try our local staffers or any staffers. Give a quick run down of the types of Red Shirts at your local store. You can also do the people who work at a store that isn't a GW. Don't use any real names or the real store location. Some people can't take an honest observation and I don't want anyone getting banned from a store. Also be mean but not too mean.

2 Sellers - Seem to be selling anything at any time to any one regardless of what most people would call ethical behavior.

1 High Lord of Opinion - Generally I like these types of staffer. Just stay away from them when you really don't agree because they are more stubborn than you.

1 Fun Guy - Cool guy but never seems to know a rule of you ask and you never really seem to see him do much.

1 Hater - Hates the job and has for quite some time. He will not do much of anything for you because you are taking away from his sulking time. I can fully understand why you would hate being a Red Shirt, I've been there, but I never damaged the gaming environment at my store. You have to take it out on the corporate section of the job. That's the bad part.

1 Balanced Dude - Seems like the rare few. Sells to the collector people who want to be sold to. Gets the right people into the hobby. Talks old stuff to the old guys.

Disclaimer is that any of these guys can still be good people and sometimes their archetype begins to fall away as they get to know you. When this happens they tend more toward Balanced. Even if they aren't the type that I like I would never hate them unless they are messing up my games. Then they will hear something from me.

I actually have never had a real issue with "redshits" before, maybe becouse i scare them. About 80% outa all the RS's i have run into have been cool so i cant say much bad.
I see it as like its there job to Sell and Help so you cant bash the ones that sell its there job, and they prob wanna keep it. Its the ones that nomatter what you tell them they know better are the ones that bug me.
I do give some of them props for putting up with arogant/rude/obnoxious gamers and not bashing them, i guess that why i havent worked in customer service before.

I normally dont play at GW stores, i leave them to the younger players since there people there to help them,i still go every once in a while but i mostly go to other game stores to play. They are normally have a way bigger gaming room and are more relaxed and comfortable.

i wish you could both come down here. there are NO stores. gw thinks florida is just old people. look below the surface and you'll find:

a large community of gamers

tourisim opportunities

rouge trader stores that are A-W-E-S-O-M-E!

The Staffers at GW Stoke are really cool. They've all got their own opinions and aren't afraid to defend them but at the same time they're not so stubborn to admit that someone else's view point is equally valid.

I'm 23 and I can have a grown up talk with them about background and the general crappiness of working for a living (why can't we be paid for doing nothing?) etc, whilst at the same time the guys can connect with the younger members.

Probably one of the enduring sights for me was walking in late sunday morning and seeing one of the staffers running around a table currently being used for fantasy, pretending to be a panicked Goblin in order to give a visual explanation to why a kid's goblin's had all run away after being hit by cannon fire.

Ours are cool.

The one i didnt like ended up getting fired, woohoo lol. he didnt know the rules, he was crap hobbyist, and he wasnt even that great with customers so its all good

The rest are all awesome and can have a laugh with ^_^ Really cool guys, cant say nothing bad about them.

Except one of them... lol...while hes stil a good laugh, hes very loud and over-bearing. He hates being wrong, he thinks he knows everything but he doesnt, we dont even look at him if we have a rules query. His main game was supposed to be LoTR but after a week of starting this game and reading the rulebook, i knew more than him and he wasnt pleased :S

But he is an AWESOME hobbyist - one of the best ive ever seen.

Rant over ^^ haha

Careful some say I am "old" and I live in Florida too friend Marcus, :-)

Can't wait to meet you and rest from florida in person.

As to Redshirts, when I lived in Northern VA we had a lot of good ones. I never had a problem with them accept they thought I was strange because I had a 5000 point snotling hoard.

The third last time I went to my local GW (a good 1/2 year ago), i.e. before some of the oldies left for other countries
Basically everyone was a mix of all of them except seller/hater.
Hence why I loved my local GW.

The new ones come across a bit snobbish and such though... don't like them as much, 'till they get a few months in. Then they become okay. It's like that GW has a legacy of training people into really cool staffers.

Reminds me I should go back and visit them when I get back from China lol... feels like I haven't talked to good friends in a long time lately. (One of reasons I'm back).
Maybe get the latest HH novel.

The Eaton Centre @ Toronto one though... last time I went there was like a year, a year and a half ago. Those people (the 4 or so on duty at the time) were basically all haters. Did not care for the hobby, did not care for the customers. Giving people looks, ignoring / dodging when people ask for help. And generally acting stuck up. (Forgive my wearing a Sens shirt and hat at the time, but I assure you it had no bearing on their behavior heehee.)

Nerds FTW. because when the jocks' sports scholarships and prime physical state run out, they're screwed. I.e. way too soon. Haha.

Also, redshirts all seem to leave GW by way of actually leaving, as opposed to death at the hands of a cool extraterrestrial... heh...

He was just mates of the manager (who sucked and got fired so woohoo) haha. But i couldnt believe it when i heard he knew nothing of the game at all and still got hired lol :P
