| Trooper ![]() | Ok, I recently decided to purchase the great Havoc box set from GW. I then realised that I had no idea how best to use them. If anyone has tips on what veteran skills, wargear, weapons etc to give them or the aspiring champion, please leave a post. Tactics would also be really helpful, all I can come up with is "put them somewhere high" ^^; Cheers folks!

| well it depends on what theyre equipped with. the box has one of each heavy weapon and i think its kinda useless. if you give them all short ranged weapons like plasma guns or melta guns then give them infiltrate. lascannons or autocannons, dont bother with vet. skills, just play em like devestators. just stick em on a hill or something and let em plug away. |

| well, 1st off i'm a firm believer that you shouldn't mix weapons in a havoc squad overall because it reduces their effectiveness! for example, never take a heavy & lascannon because one will always be wasted... against troops, the lascannon is overkill while against tanks, the poor bloke with the heavy bolter is reduced to twiddling his thumbs! also, i find it generally helpfull, unless playing a cult army to go for 8 or 10 man squads so as to ensure you have a good deal of ablaitive wounds protecting your gunners! some general set-ups; 4 plasma guns & infiltrate veteran skill - your evil anti-meq unit. upto 8 high strength ap2 shots if you can get within 12" of your target... just beware of overheats! 4 meltaguns & infiltrate skill - nasty, evil tank-hunting unit! it can also double as a short-ranged anti-meq unit too thanks to the ap1 value of the meltas. ![]() this is one havoc squad that could very well do with a power fist armed aspiring champion and can effectively double as an assault squad!!! 4 heavy bolters - anti-infantry plain and simple... when facing any non-meq army, these guys will be good value for their pts! 4 rocket launchers & tank hunters skill - tank hunters makes the rockets as effective as lascannon against vehicles (monolith excepted!) however the unit still retains some flexability once the armoured threat is eliminated due to the frag rounds... a good general unit for tournament style play! 4 autocannons & tank hunters skill - this is just plain mean against vehicles and still keeps the unit oriented to anti-infantry as well! 8 shots as an effective S8 vs vehicles will make any armour commander weep... the only thing to beware of is the monolith as tank-hunters won't work in this case, and you'll be unable to scratch it... 4 lascannons & infiltrate skill - if you know you're going to be facing lots of high armour value tanks, then this isnt a bad choice... infiltrate is added simply for the ability to place this unit after your opponent has rolled out all their big tanks! the reason i prefer rockets over this set-up is that the lascannons become a waste vs infantry as they are pure overkill! well, hope this helps! cheers!

| bears. beets. BSG. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | haha honestly i don't think i need to say anything more-stitch covered it all :] but yea, definitely specialize, both in weapons and in their purpose, ie 4 lascannons for tank hunting, etc. that makes it a lot better..the dev boxes right now are pretty much horrible in my opinion, if you use it as it comes. the new SM dev squad should be a little better-easier to convert and more of the same weaponry :] -ant

Blog Entries: 1 | a very effective setup is 2 missile launchers and 2 autocannons with tankhunters in a unit of 6-8. this unit will pump out 6 anti tank shots a turn, 2 at s9 and 4 at s8 effectively giving you the firepower of 2 lascannons and 4 krak missiles while still having the option of 2 frag missiles for anti infantry. |

| I would mix it up to an exent, such as useing lascannons and missile launchers, so that you can stil all be tank hunters, but it livens the look of the squad

Blog Entries: 1 | none what-so-ever i'm afraid. however if you get another box of you can field 1 squad with heavy botlers and autocannons and the other with missile launchers and lascannons. alternativly just get a couple of blisters. |

Blog Entries: 1 | Khadhar'phak- no offense intended there my friend however as a personal rule i never by any gw stuff anymore unless i'm firm on what and how i'll use the items i buy. i also have the havoc set however i got it as part of the army box set when it first came out a few years ago and i had plenty of the older hvy weapons models to change up the squad to what i wanted. back to what you do have. as the others mention the weapon spread in the box is prettly lame over all. yes it gives you one of each and a fairly kewl looking bits to make an asp champ but thats not what you need if you want the unit to be affective. heck the asp champ bits i assembled never even saw play as part of my main army, it became a banner carrier for my 1000sons army. do you have any other hvy weapon models? if so change up your squad to get a good balanced unit. i prefer the 2 ac and 2ml/tank hunter approach but then again i face alot of folks who play mostly mechanized infantry with a few semi-hordes tossed in once in a while. also at times i'll give them infiltrate as well for the same point mentioned by 626. so you can pick the best spot for them after you know where most of your opponents stuff will be. good luck grip
