Default Oblitorators or Havocs?

Now that my bro started his CSM army he said that he want to get havocs. But I said to him for 1 havoc squad, cant you get 2 Oblitorators? I know theyboth have their strengths and weaknesses but which seem a better deal?

i like havocs as the concept of oblits just disgusts me.

3.5 edition oblits were overpowered... the new ones are better balanced now that they've lost the autocannon and heavy bolter options.

the main disadvantes now for oblits;
a) extremely small squad size + T4
b) no anti-infantry guns beyond a twin-linked flamer

so against hoards, the oblits are just plain over-kill! havocs can pack upto 4 heavy or special weapons which lets you tailor them to pretty much any battlefield role. plus the havocs can truck about in a rhino so they've got added mobility on their side.

against tanks though, the oblits are probably a better buy as they have every anti-tank weapon you want! they're also pretty damn good against MEQ's thanks to their twin-linked plasma gun or plasma cannon option.

I'd go with the havocs. More options, easier to arm them to your needs, plus you can give them rhinos (with havoc launchers) which make great troop hunting units in their own right!

havocs are great cause they have so many lives, while oblits only have 1? 2?...they can also be relegated to killer special weapons squads...wait, is that gone in the new 'dex ? that would be dissapointing...haha

Havocs - Cost Effective.


What role does he need it for?

Go anti tank? Pack 4x MLs or throw in some autocannons.

I would always always go with 10 havocs or 8, with 4 MLs

they are one of the more perfect units and always make back their points. Also it adds more numbers to the table that Chaos armies can lack.

Also relying on one or two models just doesnt work for me. I would rather use a bigger unit that can take numerous hits!

Havocs with missile launchers an/or autocannons. All around, general purpose weapons, and they are harder to kill and generally earn their points back with ease.

I wouldn't recommend Oblits unles you are 2K, maybe even 2.5K... There is just so much more you can take!!

yes, only advantage with oblits is deepstrike
oblits can be quite lucky but havocs are better

I would definately field havocs instead of oblits because they are much more tactically flexible. You can equip them to your needs, not your opponents.
