Default So... umm... chaos...

Now, I'll say this, I've always liked Chaos Space Marines.

In fact, the only reason I originally got space marines was because I didn't realize that I in fact probably liked CSM better...

I considered buying the old Codex a while back... but decided not to as I knew it would be redone soon, and well... with all the new models out, and all the new stuff... and the fact that I can use most (all but say, my assault termies and dread.. which has an assault cannon) of my models if I convert...

So... first things first... if I was looking to start a new chaos space marine army... particularly one with a nurgle theme (not a nurgle army, but with nurgle being the patron god of the majority of my army)... what suggestions would you chaos folks have for me?

Oh, and also, are GW paints worth the cost? I haven't used them... but am thinking about changing paint companies... GW's stuff is expesnive... so, are they really worth it? If not... any other suggestions?

you ate the cookies didn't you

the beauty of the new dex is that it focuses on renegade chapters as much if not more than the traitor legions, which means that all you have to do is repaint you marines and they'll fit right in. for a really simple finish just paint over the imperial imagry with chaos star type dealios and bam, instant renegades! converting works well too

for doing a nurgly theme you could just go for a dirty paint job, of you could check this out. the bit with the sand is so damn easy and should add just the right touch of nurgly goodness.

as for the paints i never use anything but citadel colour (gw brand), i swear by em. yes they are kinda expensive but they are good quality and easy to use.

Another nice way to incorporate a nurglish theme is to include the fly symbol of nurgle into the paint job, as well as rust and damage... Hell if you could rust the helmets so that it looked like the lenses were weeping it would be outright creepy.

I sent you a PM on a Chaos proposal, but I agree with ides. The weeping rust/puss from eyes would be very cool. I could also easily see Them as newly to Nurgle. I.E. not the HUGE distended bellys and intestines, bust rust, corrosion, pustules, rotting flesh revealing bone, etc.. The veterans of the chapter, fo course, would be further along the path to damnation. In addition, I have lots of Chaos bits I can loan you to spikey-ify your Imperial SM.

not as obvious, but just doing things like three service studs on sergeants in the nurgle triangle, or even painting the kneepads and the belt buckles a contrasting nurgle-esque way would emphasise their new loyalty without making them look too different to ordinary (newly corrupted) space marines

I'll read that PM in just a minute Erus...

Yahoo... yes, I did eat the cookies.

As for Nurgle, lemme clarify a bit... some members of the chapter have given themselves to Nurgle, including the 2nd in command (I dunno... 1st Company captain?) however, not all of 'em have... they are still undivided...

Still... the idea is good...

Thanks for the replies... keep 'em coming.

Oh, anyone have a 4th Ed. Codex: Chaos Space Marines cheap, heck... I'll take $20 and free shipping!

Have done so... but like I said... I'd prefer it to be small... other wise it'd be a pain is the butt...

If it's bigger than 1meg... tell me and I'll download from Gmail instead of into outlook express.

Paints???

As I have said before..... *and Steve will agree*

If you have ALOT of $$$ you would like to donate to GW; by all means, be my guest! But APPLE BARREL paints (0.49 - 1.09 ea *for a real size 2oz*) are a much more economical choice! Sure, with GW paints you dont have to thin (much); and with AB you have to mix 1:1; but thats EVEN MORE PAINT youre getting! The colors from GW can almost always be matched.
THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS GW INKS AND GLAZES!

Prepared for the cries of heracy against the forces that be......

My Chemistry teacher uses Vallejo...accidentally mixed hydrochloric acid into some paint once because the bottles were similiar, not pretty results...
