Default Would the Balrog be a good Greater Daemon?

He sure does look like one

oh yea definitely!
just look at it!!
now paint it differently of course and then add some khorne symbols all over and you got yourself one nasty critter!
a big plus is that its plastic, while the bloodthirster is metal!!

actually, if i were to ever get a thirster, it would be a converted baelrog. an axe in the other hand would also be cool....

Yeah...some minor converting and he's awesome...I love the sculpture of this particular piece and with some GS he would make a right proper Bloodthirster...

As I've said before, the Balrog is the ONLY way to go for making a Bloodthirster. The FW one is way to big, and I hate the donkeyheaded GW one. Holy cow, I gotta get a Balrog to convert! I had put it on the back burner and completely forgot about it. Shave the flames off the back, find him a axe and whip, and bam! Awesome thirster.

Thumbs up

I think so, whenever I get around to getting a greater daemon, I'll be getting a Balrog

yea i don't see why he couldn't be ! :] plus, some killer paint work would probably distinguish it more. i'm thinking tattoos and other crazy stuff, but even simple chaotic designs stenciled onto the flesh would make it more 40k-ey :]

Actually it says it comes with a whip, so you just need to find an axe for it!

I've expressed my opinion on this before...

...I think it'd be a great Blood Thirster! A few minor swaps and some filing and you got 'yer self an amazing 'Thirster!

Yeah, you could use that whip if you shaved the flames off. I guess you could use the axe off the GW thirster, plus some greenstuff. Some Khorne symbols would be required too. A bunch of skulls too.

I'm imagining a bunch of skulls and helmets around the base instead of flames...

As for scale..yeah it's actually 25mm instead of 28 so it's not THAT much smaller...besides...if it looks like a GD then it is a GD as long as the size is close I don't see it mattering much...and he comes with a whip and a flaming sword so not much converting would be needed...and I think instead of filing or cutting off the flames, just a lil minor GS work and they could be a really gnarly looking bit of hair... and as the kit is plastic...the possibilities for converting are pretty much only limited by ones imagination

if you're confident with the green stuff, you can always add-on some bits of armour as the bloodthrister is typically clade in the brass armour of khorne like the lesser bloodletters & bloodcrushers!

also, other details you might think of adding on would be;
- brass collar of khorne (no effect in 40k, but it's a stapple gift of khorne anyways!)
- cloven feet
- lots of mangy hair
- an icon of khorne

cheers!

Who said it has to be a Khornate GD?

With the new dex it would make an awesome GD as is.

ummm...I believe it's around 8inches including the wings...which makes the rog himself stand at about 6 and a half or so...

ive seen some conversions of these boys, and as everyone always debates what to use instead of the donkey head, i seen one guy had used one of the Defiler sprue heads, which i thought looked really cool and gave it that more super human-y warrior look than raging cow
im gonna be trying mine with the defiler head

Yeah, I got a GW one, but I'm using it for parts. I hate the head. I'm gonna use the wings on a DP possibly. I'll keep the weapons and pick up the Balrog, and do some converting. I like the ideal of turning the flames on its back into a mane. I need more Daemons in my army anyways, so whenever I get the cash I'll get started on it. It's not a real pressing project, but I'll get to it eventually.

I'm sure the Balrog it a great basis for a Greater Daemon. I'ver certainly seen it used very well for a Daemon Prince - for which the guy had swapped the head for the current plastic Dark Elf Cold One's head (as well as hand changes and no flaming back IIRC).
