Probably because powerfists are so slow. That's my interpretation for it, anyway.

I wouldn't worry Dragoon these preleaks aren't entirely accurate, their the pre-alpha from which the first stock of rumours came from. I know (as much as I can) that the assaulting into cover thing means you strike at Int.1 not a penalty of -1.

Shooting
-There's now a reason to have a BS higher than 5 (can we say 2+/5+?).
-All models friend or foe now block line of sight. Vehicles and Monstrous Creature can be targeted over intervening infantry.
-Area terrain does not block line of sight.
-All blast weapons now scatter. BS is still an important function of how far though.

Vehicles
-Defensive weapons on vehicles are now Str 4 and below.
--Skimmers Moving Fast is now a 5+ cover save. All Obscured Targets receive a cover save. No more "Hull Down."
-Dedicated transports can now carry any unit (subject to normal restrictions, i.e., no Terminators) and are no longer the deathtraps they have been (no entangling, just pinning).
-AP 1 weapons add +1 to the vehicle damage chart instead of doing as they do now.
-Ordinance weapons roll 2d6 and pick the highest on the vehicle damage table.

Miscellaneous
-Independent Character targeting restrictions have been eased.
-There is no IC protection any longer unless he is joined to a unit
-ICs within 2" of a unit automatically join it.
-Dark Eldar are not gone, as they're mentioned in the rules (their jetbikes DO get the 6" assault).
-Frag grenades operate as plasma grenades now.
-Monstrous creatures get move through cover, not a reroll.
-Saving Throws are now made AFTER wound allocation. This means you could still roll all your generic troopers as a group, but will need to roll for each special model (serg, heavy weapons, etc) one by one. Torrent of Fire is gone.

Missions
-The missions are different enough that Troops only counting as scoring isn't as big a deal as it would be today.
-Victory points are calculated differently in "cleanse" style missions (points calculated depending on the FOC slot the dead unit took up).
-Scouts and Infiltrators can now try to outflank the enemy and come on as reserves from a different board edge.
-Deepstrike is the same, but if you can't place all the models, you roll on the "deepstrike mishap" table (50% you're dead, 50% you place yourself anywhere you like).

i heard actually that things like pfists will ONLY count as two cc weapons if you actually HAVE two powerfists on the guy. strange rumor, i know...but what isn't strange around these parts ? :P

Somehow I don't see that happening. Ever. Power fists are just too cumbersome and unwieldly. Think about it, you're basically flinging half your body weight of killiness about. No CCW bonus makes sense to me. Even if I now mourn for my Nobz/Vet. Sergeant's lost attacks T_T

Eldar Wave Serpent with Star engines does a 30" Ram on a Land raider causing a S11 Hit to say the rear armor?

and the WS feild reduces the return hit to S8?

or am i reading that wrong?

Given that nothing else changes, then you do indeed read correctly.

I do however, strongly feel there will be re-printings of the Codex, or FAQs issued so that things like this don't exist too long. Just like 2+ invuln tzeentch biker saves and toughness 6 nurgle bikers, they should be sorted out.

Why is no one asking the really pertinent question: why are they releasing 5th Edition now?

GW has been working on a 6-year alternating cycle for the Big Two for the last twelve years or so. In other words, every three years, one of the Big Two gets updated. 4th Ed was released in 2004. WFB 6th Ed was released in 2007. Surely, we shouldn't be seeing 40k5 until 2010?

My greatest fear is that GW has been spooked by its recent losses and plunging share price and the board has brought forward the release of their best-selling title accordingly. The Studio will be under pressure to produce a quick result.

If we see 5th Ed released this Summer, the rules-set itself will probably be fair enough (I never design my armies for TT effectiveness, anyway, so it's all so much "meh" to me), but I fear that the release will be awash with typos, inconsistencies and errors, because the company is releasing a product that hasn't been fully and appropriately playtested.

We can whinge, but companies go up and down from year to year, there profits may have been down because they were investing a lot into 5th ed also. No one likes paying tax and the best way to get round it is by investing! Plus it's an "investment"

5th Edition
Finally on to 5th edition. We have heard more corroborating information from several sources confirming GW as the source of the "mystery document". That is, it was not a fan-made hoax, but instead an early play-test document that got out. This would seem to mesh with some of the more "recent" changes we have heard about that are not in the doc, as they would be revisions that are shaking out of later development process. More as we get it.



BTW-

I think we really need 5th edition. But I'll jump on this discussion on the other thread.
