But you must admit that deep down inside you love the sound of enemies squeeshed under the tracks of your tanks

And i know some people might hate me.... but as STUPID as i find rending (especially in the case of certain meelee units taking out certain insanely armored tanks that on the other hand have humongous steel projectiles simply bounce off them leaving just a scratch in the paint) i like it right now.

Many of you have mentioned the Assault Cannon. Some say it's a broken weapon right now. Here's my opinion. If they based it off of the real world M134 I'd say it's pretty well represented. It could use some adjustments, but no major changes.

Of course if it's not based off the M134, screw by above comment and enjoy the movie!

rending is getting dumbed down so that it's not so game-breaking - especially where the ass-can is concerned!

cheers!

The thing is,.... Things like the baal predator would be weakened then.. YOu see what I mean about not wanting to even bother with making my army? How do I know what will be effective anymore, and what won't be utter crap or not nearly useful as before..

in theory you can run stuff over when enemy units try 'Death or Glory' and fail- hopefully though the ramming rules (please dear god let it be an awesome rule like it sounds) will incorporate some sort of running over infantry thing.

Like maybe infantry taking D6 Strength X hits, but the vehicle takes an automatic hit which immobilises it on a 4+ every 6" or so it progresses after the initial contact (try and discourage mechanised IG from simply running over an entire Tyranid Swarm).

EDIT: regarding assault cannons- in 3rd ed. the Baal Predator was fairly prevalent in BA armies I saw because a 3 shot Str.6 Ap.4 weapon was an infantry killer, now it has 4 shots AND rending it really is popular but if it lost rending....really would that negate the fact it instant kills most other race's troops, slices through any armour worse than MEQ and still has 4 shots to boot? (coupled with Space Marine BS4 and the Baal carrying twin-linked ass cannons those 4 shots will nearly always hit)

The spikey one has a point... the Baal is just amazing right now... it'll only be good in the future... the same goes with the LRC.

Eh.. Thing is, I take it now because of the ass-cans power as it is. If it changes, i'd just take autocannon and heavy bolter. Better combo, imho.

I like (or don't mind) most of the [rumored] changes, I just don't want to have to buy another rules book so soon.

Though my army uses a few assault cannons, I don't really depend on the Rending special rule, it's just an extra bonus for my army right now. If Rending gets toned down (or even removed entirely from assault cannons) it won't phase my army much.

Though, from the 4th edition definition of Rending, it fits the assault cannon perfectly.

Well as it is the ass can is NOT based on the M134...more like the 20mm vulcan variant...it's not a mini gun guys...or do you all seem to forget that it mounts on tanks and termies?...

All this 5th edition crap perturbs me beyond belief...as I have repeatedly said the pups end up suckin hind teet...last to come out and now have two editions of rules that are not completely comapatible with the 3rd edition dex I am forced to use...WTF are they thinkin...??...

Leave it up to GW to screw the whole thing up just to make a buck...*&%&$^%$^*&%^&^%$*$&^*&^*!!!!!!! capitalist *^%$#$#%$#*%^*$%^&#$#@^!!!!!!

Now I have to go out and buy another set of rules and spend another 50+ of my hard earned dollars so I can play thier F^#*ed up game?...that'll be the end of it for me...I'll sell the lot and never even look back!!!

And they wonder why they are losing their established cutomer base...(not to mention members from their senior staff)

But only a couple of armies can take them... and even then they can only take a couple of them :/

It`s not like i can field 10 ass cans in a decent army without sacrificing a whole lot of stuff

Look at it this way - My Ulthwe got FUBAR technically with 3rd ed and to 4th ed update, Starcannons were made more expensive and lost a shot, I lost my Black Guardians, and I lost my Seer council!

Was I mad - yes, because I had to change my army, would I go back to 3rd? NO WAY, 4th ed dex has given me a lovely balanced list that I can pick and choose from loads of units I would never have looked at before!

Dont worry your ass cannons may take a beating, but c'mon Space Marines? They are still going to be the best army (at least best all round army!)

At the end of the day if your not playing tourneys you can play which ever ruleset you want anyway, so no is forced to buy the new rules anyway!

Okay, so far it looks like a love hate thing with the 5th edition. am i right?
so, heres my 2 cents.
i like what im seeing overall, However i do share Erus Missgiveings, but at the same time, and from some people i would at Least call fairly reliable. ive heard things about planetside, and about the 5th edition, and everytime it gets mentioned, its like the staff at my local GW have seen a ghost, and if the dates mentioned, its all 'thats not ture' etc etc, the usual stuff. the stuff we all must have heard before Apoc.
so i put it to you, for the sake of arguemnt, lets say stich is rught and the 4th was busted. but at the same time what if its just anouther money making scheme done by the head honcohs at GW HQ?

anyway, thats my opnioin.

Off course it's a money making thing, just as any company that brings out new and improved things (I just happen to like GW things!) but at the same time we all get so rapped up in the hobby we think we have to buy the new rules etc!

I look at it that these days, now I have a child I dont go to the pub much or out that much, where you can spend in excees of £20 every pub visit and loads more on restaurants, so £30 to me is fine.

I understand some of the younger ones having trouble to afford it but, to the older ones, just hold off a pub trip when the rules come out!

The Moneys not the problem.

tho, that comes from someone who dosent even own a 4th edition and is toying around with getting a IMP Fists army set up.

I just dont like Idea of GW getting even more money out us! i mean, they get enough allready! up untill recently i was a bit of a GW junkie in terms of how often i bought models. so much so i had LOADS to paint.

I know what you mean, but it's not GW's fault that they produce and we buy, if we didnt buy all the updates they would do something else to harness our money! As you said you dont have 4th ed, and you know when you buy a new rule book it's gonna last 5 years or so (or 3 or is it 4? in this case!), and the add ons like are Apocc are take it or leave it things, i didnt get Cities of Death as I dont have a city fight board, and I wouldnt have got Appocc if I didnt have a big enough army!

And as for mini's that is entirely up to yourself on how far you take it!

It is thier fault! they should stop mkaing so much shiney stuff!! anyway, at any rate, i do agree, with any luck, if this all does come true,a nd not idle rumour, this new rulebook should last us a fairly longer time. the corect alotted time however. not just a cut down version as is with the 4th.

and as far as the minis are concerned, as soon as i get my yellow technique set in stone, i'll be taking my minis very far!
