626 how does new rending work? I mean old rending caused "no save possible" wounds on units and an extra +D6 pen for tanks, but the new rundown of rending states it is an AP 2 hit on units and +D3 on vehicles, so isn't rending on units basically a power weapon? Since it isn't stated as having a save possible, plus has an AP value why not just call it a Powertoy in CC and a plasma pistol/gun/cannon for ranged?

Also, I think instead of the unspectacular +D3 pen it should work like the melta, not in terms of +D6 but if the hit equals the armor, it becomes AP1 and penetrates, or with the new damage table, adds +1 to the score.

i think they dont call it a power weapon because some will interpret as a unit with rending means its always a power weapon

the models in the new set are supossed to be freaking godly - the space marine captain is fething gross from what our manager has told us! the ork warboss is pretty spank-tasitic as well, along with the deff koptas.

basically, these are suposed to be the most highly detailed and best looking 'starter' models ever produced... the detail is the same, if not better, than alot of the current multi-part sets.

sure they can take it but remember the average citizen in the M41 is well

Cleaned up some completely off the wall posts, so if you see one of yours missing in this thread, y'know why. Tyranids needing power weapons or ranged attacks and Rending being confusing are all good comment, but not for a thread discussing the 5th ed. starter set. I realize this thread in general is a bit off, but i'm please asking you guys... If we're discussing a 5th edition kit... can we keep to a minimum comments of 'Rending is confusing', with nothing much else to it...

And, if you see an off topic comment.. PM or make a new thread on it, don't reply to it. Makes the staffs lives easier. We're all for banter 'round these parts, but we also need a bit more from you guys on controlling it.

I'm excited for this new starter kit, as this means (hopefully) a new commander model, and some snazzier SM models and tasty new bits.

I know it's probably been mentioned before, but do we have a reasonable time these guys are hitting the shelf, and/or a reliable idea of what the set is to contain.

there's a new commander + new warboss in the starter set... some of the details on the new marines include;
- no more 'heady' bits where the head is surrounded by that goofy collar for example.
- straps on the bolters
- finer details like frag grenades and better looking purity seals.

the new set will likely hit stores sometime between july-september??? the actual hardcover rulebook will come first, followed by the new starter set... (at least, that's what we're being told at this time.)

the thing i'm wanting most; DEFF KOPTAS!!!

the current macragge & paint class marines we use have this massive high collar around the marine's neck - especially at the back - and it's solid... if you look at a regular multi-part plastic marine, there's a gap between the back upper collar & neck.
that's apparently how the new 5th edition starter marines look - just like the multi-part marines! and the marines as well for example are also suppossed to be in more action poses instead of everyone looking strait ahead, with the bolter held low...

They need to also have different styles of bolters and arm directions. (all space marines point their gun the SAME way. How dull)

Space marines are trained to be completely ambidextrous, so it makes no difference which hand they fire with anyway.

it used to be because they only had one armoured shoulderpad
it would be the one they pointed toward the enemy
but now both pads are equal so i dont see why they wouldnt have the "left handed" bolter marine
