The Case of the Missing GW Paints

well, I checked in at one of my faveourate painters sites earlier today (Chaos Bunny Studios - miniature art by Wil Davies) and he had finally posted up some of his tutorials on painting yellow and some very cool imperial fists comissions he'd just finsihed.
I looked at one his links, a article wich, for those of you who use vajello paints, was a comparison between the GW Paints and the smae colour in the Vajello series.
now, heres what (nad this is me putting it nicely as ive just started an ostermark empire army and I NEED some of these colours for said army) a few of the colousr in the range, have been removed. puzzled, i check the GW site for a colour i now desperately need (for the afore-mentioned Ostermark army) tentacle pink, and the GW online store no longer stocks it.
so...im slightly annoyed, as the tenticle pink was a main part of my colour scheme, what about you? has GW pulled a colour you use reguarly?

see what you make of it, i know that I will be haveing to find out who stocks vajello paints now, as i NEED that tentacle pink. among other colours.

Not yet but now you have me worried.....

I wonder if you could get someone to match your color at a paint store? Ask for a sample pint and see what happens. I am not sure what type of paint it would be;Latex based I am sure.

Other than that you might be stuck mixing what paints are available to get the correct color.

The warstore carries Vajello (TheWarStore.com) and the Dungeontrader (Dungeontrader The Source for Warmachine and Hordes) also carries the line.

I know that many other e-retailers also carry the line. But I have had great experience with both of these vendors.

I have my entire army painted in a colour THEY NO LONGER MAKE. I can't even remember the name, since I threw to pot out when it was completely dried + emptied. One of the colours on there looks similiar but... I cry. I have to repaint my entire army now. -_-

Oh man that sucks!!!!! How long did you have that paint before it dried killer? I still have some old armoury and citadel colour paints from the RT era and believe it or not they are still good.

I am a big fan of Vallejo they have never done me wrong yet!

Does vallejo have a match for Ultramarines blue spray? My entire army was painted it and now I don't have the time to paint my new megaforce....

I havent had any luck finding you a spray that matches Draven, Vallejo has a Blue that matches the GW colour but its still only a paint pot size. I am still keeping a eye out for ya though.

Thanks Warchild, i tried all those matches and there isn't even that many that match UM blue.

Well, do you think using the pot in an airbrush could achieve the same effect? I'm tempted to buy one just for that.

Vallejo also makes airbrush colours and it would work great. Dont use GW paints in a airbrush it will just ruin it. I have the Vallejo version of UB,give me a couple and i will tell you the name.

Edit: The Vallejo Ultramarine blue is called Ultramar its exactly the same as the GW colour, its from there Model Colour line of paints.

I really miss GW line of spray colors: Blood Red, Bolt Gun Metal, Dark Angel Green and Catacan Green.

Its funny you should mention missing some of the discontinued colors. I have been nursing my two containers of beaten copper for 3 years, I like that extra effect on small details. I guess sooner or later I'll have to decide what I'm going to replace it with. I just talked to the store owner here in town, he said they just cancelled a few more colors.

Blazing Orange is gone now too. they are slowly taking away paints to be replaced by Foundation

Ok, do i have to water down the paint at all before I throw it in the airbrush?

I use creamcoat, etc. paint. You can get thinner for it for use in an air brush. It is a bit thick and you have to thin it a bit to use it with a brush. Cleans up with water (acrylic) and much cheaper than the other model company paints. When you have as many mini's as me the lower cost helps.

GW paints definitely need to be thinned for airbrushing, about 50% paint and 50% water or denatured alcohol. I recommend a 50-50 mix of water and denatured alcohol as a thinner, then mix that in equal parts with GW paint.

Ever used denatured alcohol, Marcus? It has little or no odor.

That is what I use for when I use my dry brush. Its much better than using any type of water to thin your paints, and spreads smoother also!
