What are you guys' opinions? Worth the cost? Useful kit? Or is this GW just pandering to a younger crowd to blow money via Apoc? Or, something else entirely? This got into a fairly negative bash about the set on a myspace group I am in (all 40k ones are nigh useless anymore). I'd like to hear the intelligent and calm reasoning you lads and lasses are famed for here abouts, eh?

For the love of... Who/s gonna spend that much money on anything short of FW?!! Who's going to spend that much on the hobby at one time? Whoever they be, they'd be a very happy person. That looks like a great way to make the Deathwing company. Yes, it looks useful. But still, $1,100? I don't think that it will end up selling near as much as the Space Marine Battle company did. An unfruitful endeavour.

Yea, with that cost, I mind as well buy a titan or 2 which could easily beat 100 terminators with land raiders.

Right?

O.O
i'm speechless.
worth the cost ? i think anything 1100 is overboard. who needs [and/or wants to build] 100 freaking termies and 5 LR/LRCs ?

it's cool though...deeeeeefinitely cool. and i guess it's a fast way to "ease" into the hobby ! :P

Its not a good idea.

Unfieldable, and not cool enough to make me spend that much.

Should have offered a cheaper small deal. The other deals are ok though.

I like the CSM termie one.

Right?
Not necessarily. There is the "Titan Hammer" datasheet with Termies specifially on Titan and War-machine hunting duty, and with a few squads of them from the Deathwing set, you could take out the one or two Titans your opponent has. Then the rest of the 80 (depending on how many Titan Hammer squads you want) terminators take out whatever's left!

As for the box itself: not worth it. Even though those characters probably amount to about $45-$60 more for free, it's just not worth it. If you're that much of a nut, you can be persuaded to buy anything.

I'm crazy enough....well sort of. I wanted to buy about 30 more terminators for my Deathwing army. I also want 3 LRCs. But the only way I could justify buying something this big would be to split it between 3 or 4 ppl.

Right?
ahem. thats 100 models capable of killing a warhound in h-t-h remember.

For ~£550 that's quite something. Presumably this is like the Dark Eldar & Nid Apoc sets, there's no box as such, you just get sent all the frames you need. Its a very tasty set, and if anyone wanted to make their entire 1st Company, that would no doubt be the thing to do it with.

those kinds of deals are aimed at mainly veteran gamers who are into the idea of collecting an entire company...

it's also ment to be something that say, 3-6 friends can go into together and split everything up depending on how much each put into! also, it's a great seller for a 'family gift' for younger gamers.
we're pitching the same idea with the space marine battle companies in the sotre; 'sure it's $600, but it can be your son/daughter's gift from the entire family for xmas!' parents think about it and really warm upto the idea of 6+ reletives all pitching-in and just doing 1 big gift! (also makes xmas shopping really easy too!!!)

cheers!

haha well we might not be able to afford the termie set, but here on 40kterra, at least we got the lovins...haha

anyhow, yea stitch was gonna bring that point up, you could easily divide it into 200 USD investments, each getting 20 termies for 200 ish and a land raider thrown in there for around 225 USD ? it doesn't sound bad at all when you divvy it up like that.
