Default Free Catalogue from GW

Yes i did use the words "FREE" and "GW" in the same sentence without also using the words "oxygen no longer availble in your local" in the middle!!

Go to the UK GW homepage HERE and there are two lovely downloads available-one is the new catalogue (after the revamp of the online store) and the other is a price booklet.

Hey, there's a lot of bits in there that I've never seen before, Like the Space Marine armor through the ages pack or the Ork Goffik Rockers. It also has all the current bitz packs, which the US store doesn't seem to carry.

actually, its not the catalogue - its the Bitz & Collectors Catalogue, which is very poor. Clever and well done in a business sense, but rubbish for the hobbyist.
Everything that's in it was already available and more than 10x what is in it has been completly cut and will never be available again. Yes, more packs of old bitz and brand new packs will be made available over the coming years, but this re-gigging and cutting down of the bitz ordering service is a massive blow and won't help GW much apart from not having to have such big warehouses for archive models.

EDIT:
also, the Specialist Games bitz are completely gone and will not return.

YEt again i'd like to know how you know for sure the specialist games range is gone forever.. And whilst that does suck (I was considering Inquisitor or BFG).. GW is a buisness, and when profits drop, you cut off the lowest earners that you can. That being, Specialist Gaming.

Plus, I don't remember them ever selling GK psycannons 5x at a time at a bundled price discount, nor a Deathwatch Veteran upgrade KIT rather than buying it all separate (again, at a discount), or innumerable other things.

While the content in and of itself is the same old hat and dance bits wise, the packaging is different, and the price is also cheaper. So you've no grounds/rights to call is poor anything, nor do I remember a convention of hobbyists giving you the right to speak for them.

Maybe for specialists gamers like yourself it is, but for those who do more converting in just 40k, it has potential. Granted, it's GW, so preliminary excitement about anything common sense/innovative should be cautious, lol!

After all, who said, or where does it say, that these bits will be limited to old school ones? They might very well start coming out with packs of 4x heavy bolter servitors or the bits for 4x heavy bolter devs, etc.. That's where I see GW going with this.

Their annual shareholders meeting was not a happy one. They physically recognized the fact online bits stores and ebay were kicking their asses, and that they had to find a way to compete somehow and keep the lions share of the gamers spending within the company.

This to me, would signal the very beginning of just such one move.

I never said Specialist Games was gone, just that the bitz service has been completly removed and you can now only buy complete models/warband/etc.

Quote:

GW has made a promise to maintain Specialist Games into the considerable future, they aren't going away at all, and as has been seen, they are slowly giving each SG system an new updated rulebook - Inquisitor, Warmaster & Bloodbowl are the only ones yet to receive this (ignoring BoFA cause thats so new).

Don't feel discouraged by it now being more effort to source parts for certain conversions.

Yes, I realise the bundles are quite good, often making a small saving on what it previously cost to buy the bitz separately. I call it poor because this new bitz packs range is vastly smaller than the previous system of probably the largest collection of purchasable archive metal models and parts provided by any business in the world.

Quote:

If you look, you'll see that a very great number of the best conversions on Inquisitor models have been achieved by using 40K parts (especially obscure or archive pieces). Its not just SG players that are loosing out on choice, its everyone.

I never said it would be limited to old sculpts, I specifically said that they will be expanding the bitz range with both packs of new sculpts and more packs of popular old sculpts.

As I said, business wise, it is a very clever move by GW that does have great potential so long as they grasp it and don't loose they're way. Starting over like this gives them the chance to make the Bitz service miles better than it ever was before.

Looks like the US online store is finally starting to get updated as well. The US store has the catalouge as well, but not as neat and tidy.

I still think 60 bucks and shipping and handling is way to much for 10 iron hands tactical marines.

and why a couple metal bits for night lords cost the same as a landspeeder or assault sqaud.

Otherwise i see no major problems.

Thats what we all say, it was worse, but its not true! ITS NOT TRUE I TELL YOU!

It sucked, and, if im honest, it still sucks. The improvement is that now i can get my crappy catalouge for free, like in any other normal store, instead of paying for the crappy catalouge.
