Default Gw Discounts?! First Time Ever?

http://us.games-workshop.com/calltoarms/default.htm

oh man, GW says: Spend around 200$+ worth and paint it we will give you discounts~

You are getting such a good deal for being 'loyal'

What you think (Haha.... amazingly online stores provide 20% off given without any other purchses beforehand and effort)

I'd love to be more excited about this "deal", but no stores in my area are participating

I remember when GW did someting like this before. Every time you spent £5, you got a little sticker. Afer like 25 stickers, you got an SM standard bearer, then 50 was like a voucher. there were other things as well. I still have the SM guy, but never got the other things because they finnished it.Tthat was like 7 years ago or something like that.

hmmmm... well overall it's another one of their somewhat empty ads they normally run once every other year or so...
now if you've just started to or are about to start a new army, then it's not that bad a promo, in that you'll at least get a little something out of a project you'd been planning to do anyways!

the main problems;
a) it's only availible in the US!
b) it's fantasy only?

overall, i think the auctions held up here in the northern wastes are overall better... granted you of corse have be carefull about what you bid on and the little termites are annoying as feth, but you can get some truely amazing deals!
(for example, one of my buddies got the old 'last chancers' box set for $17!!!)

cheers!

Yeah that was the Skullz promotion!
Ive still go the Space Marine standard bearer and the rarer Iwo Jima Space Marine piece-very nice!
GW will have to realise that they are being undercut everywhere by other companies and if they dont do somthing about it soon they will be in trouble!

10% isn't really that big a deal. And it certainly isn't the first time GW have done discounts - there was once a time not all that long ago when GW did such things as January Sales or 3-for-the-price-of-2 deals on new vehicles/units.

And then there's the permanent discount of 50% for all staff members...

wow! i think that was 2001 for the skullz program...
that was actually a great program because you got skullz just for buying anything, even paints and white dwarf! granted you needed an obscene amount of skullz to get any of the good stuff, but still, the fact that there was no limits on what counted towards obtaining skullz was nice.

i ended up getting the battlemat and a codex. (know there's one more thing, just can't remember!)
and i did know of one person in my local area who saved up the 300 skullz needed for the forgeworld baneblade!

cheers!

...that was a rather different set-up for the skulls than there was in the UK then, lol.
Our big thing was like 100 skullz for the limited edition skullz Ultramarines Banner-barer, t'was a rather nice looking model.
All i got through skullz was Codex Assassins, record bag with metal Imperial Eagle on it and finally an ancient metal space marine from the Rouge Trader era.

i remember when i first started out, and i mean the very first thing i bought, i got an army card. whenever you got certain things, like the one going on now, you got the card stamped. once its filled out (there were 5-6 sections) you could then get other stuff like spray paint, a codex, or a basic troop box.
(remember, this was in 2001 when i was in 5th grade so i dont remember everything. not quite the same as skullz but eh...)

I know the promotion you're talking about, the whole thing was you went once a week to the sunday beginer things and get shown how to do different stuff before getting that section of the card ticked. At the end of it I think you got a discounted model or something.

i think the best deals i ever got from a gw store were the 2 old school grand openings i went to...
25% off everything in the store! not too bad and i'd spend my thursday and friday in math class thinking up 'wish lists' of stuff and then just knocking 10% off the basic retail price to see if i could afford it. (10% off the ticket price because in ontario at the time, we added 15% sales tax to everything...)

ah yes, those were the good old days when gw actually cared about their custumers...

cheers!

Would be nice if they started doing somthing that everyone could benefit from-somthing simple make paints three for two or somthing, everyone needs them and its not a one off buy like a lot of products so there is ther resale potential!.
Part of the problem (as GW see it) is if they sell stuff at reduced price it will turn up on ebay at full price (or more) soon after- look at any limited edition they have released, people just bulk buy them to sell on at inflated value, so the average gamer cant get hold of one (one guy walked into my local GW and bought all the Inquisitor Lok models when the were released, same guy has been known to buy all the Army box sets the morning they come out)

My Skulz Promotion "Iwo Jima Marines"

And the little people who are so hopelessly addicted to the game prove to the greedy corporate pigs that raising the prices continuously is a good thing by going and working for the company. Seriously, I've only been playing for a couple of years and in that time I've watched the prices go from $18CAD for a Necron Wraith to $25 for the same model. Almost a 40% increase in 2 years. Absolutely ridiculous for a company to continue claiming to find more cost efficient ways to produce and all they ever do is raise the prices.

I, for one, have stopped making purchases and I think if the community at large would just paint what they have stuffed in closets and in back rooms they'd find that they had enough models to last them for some time. Then GW would see that people aren't willing to be bent over for some poorly done new models (cash grab, see the recently released Possessed) and might hear the voice of the community. Sadly, I don't think enough people really care to do something like this and GW would probably react in the opposite desired direction: they'd probably raise the prices further to try to regain some lost revenue..... Idiots....

Ah I remember when I first got into 40K, it was about 8 yrs ago at the tender age of 14. Back then A 10 man Tactical Squad cost £10 (roughly $18) and they had bitz buys every couple of months at my local GW store- basically they had 2-3 large bins filled with sprues and you could buy a sprue for 10p (18 cents) but it was lucky dip...those were the days

My old point of view on this subject has changed quite lot now.

Two years ago GW forked out a monumental amount of cash to take all the various stages of its model production to new levels unmatched by any other manufacturer. Admittably we have only just begun to see the results of this, with the first evidence of better production systems arriving in the form of the tightly packed Cities of Death frames, but these were just a taster of what it so come and was followed swiftly by the Battle For Skull Pass sprues and models.

The fantasically tight-packed devestators and DA kits are what i would call 40Ks first real experience of the new tech.

Unfortunately the equipment to produce such is unbelievably expense - so much so infact that Gw is one of only two Europian owners of a certain super-high-detail computer design program - the other owner being BMW.
And naturally as a result all prices have had to be pushed up to recooperate the cost as quickly as possible, after which the price will probably slowly fall again.

And the biggest benefit?

Well I suspect the Mumak will have to retire its title as GWs largest ever plastic model...

Yeh, ever since I learnt that they'll be making a plastic Baneblade and other super heavies I'm happy to spend the extra money.

I mean, a Baneblade! For half the Forgeworld price! (Or so I am told.)

As they start to make things like Valkyries, Drop Pods, Gargantuan creatures and so on over the next few years I think the extra cost we pay now is worth it. I'm all set to buy that stuff and save a bundle on it!
