Default Hurry up and don't buy our product!

CITADEL SPRAY GUN
PRODUCT RECALL

As most of you are aware, we had our scheduled release for our Spray Gun for Saturday June 21st 2008. Unfortunately Games Workshop has decided to recall all Spray Guns that have been manufactured to date. Games Workshop prides itself on the high quality of its products and customer service. Due to this diligence we have just discovered a quality defect in the Spray Guns.

As we cannot be 100% confident in the quality of this product we have decided that the best course of action is to remove the Spray Gun from distribution until we can correct the problem.

If you have already purchased either the Citadel Spray Gun or Citadel Propellant please return them to the place you purchased them for a full refund.

Games Workshop is deeply sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

Annoyance is being felt. So much for buying one this saturday to help with my TOXG CSM army.

You can get better spray guns in various art or diy shops. Some of them even have a built in compressor so you won't have to buy cans of popellent, you just plug them into the mains.

Does "I am an overpriced piece of crap" count as a defect? There are many, many much better airbrushes on the market, at lower prices than the one GW was trying to pawn off on us. Just because GW sells it, does not mean that we have to run out and buy it. If you want a decent, fairly inexpensive airbrush, try Testors Aztec range. They do the job, and you can get a pretty fine line with most of them. This thing GW is pushing isn't really an airbrush. It's a Spraygun. You'll be better off buying Krylon Spray Paint.

For those interested, the defect in the spray gun is the barrel. Once the compressed air goes through, it makes the barrel so cold that it cracks, breaks, shatters, etc. At least this is what my manager told me, after hearing it from HQ.

Looks like Rhaalidor was right on with his "piece of crap" remark. Good call!

The manager is wrong, or a liar. Compressed air (canned propellant) won't cause the kind of temperatures that can crack an airbrush barrel. Sorry to disagree, but it just ain't true. I'd say that cheap manufacturing is the cause. Oh, yeah, I work in the plastics world, and temperature testing is part of our Quality Control procedure. Unless GW is using liquid nitrogen for a propellant (which ain't happening), the fault is in the barrel. Let's face it. GW has put out another over-priced piece-of-crap product. I don't know of any plastic that will destruct under the temperatures of any canned propellant, whether said propellant is compressed air, propane/butane, isobutanol, or any other concoction that can be legally put in an aerosol can. Sorry. GW's excuse is horsecrap. Put your hard earned money into a reputable product. Testor's Aztec, Badger, Paasche, or even the spraygun/airbrush I bought at Big Lots for $12.99. They are all better than the thing GW was pushing. What are we, junkies waiting for our next GW fix?

Rhaalidor, aside from what I was told by the manager, here are the facts I know to be true:

It's simple compressed air, looks just like a can of spray paint (held one in my hand)

The issue is the barrel is cracking, I was told it was due to the air, but your right, simple compressed air cannot reach temperatures that will crack a barrel. (I'll be having a word with the manager). Let's see if we can figure out the real reason why the barrel is breaking, not the BS excuse or the fact that the product is crap.

As a side note, I didn't order the GW airbrush. I currently own two Badger sprayers, and they are great. Lot more bang for the buck.

The propellant is probably the same as Badger Propel. Compressed air. The cracking may be due to Air Pressure, but not temperatures. Badger rocks, as does Paasche. Aztec is a little more cheaply built (but is more modular, if you have two different Aztec brushes, you can use the same tips), but as I said before, the $13 Big Lots spraybrush works for most purposes, unless you need to paint a fine line. From what I've seen, with the exception of the cool handle, the GW spraygun is inferior for the cost, being a single action, external mix spraygun. I bought a single action, external mix gun at Walmart for $60, and it came with a compressor.

Not that I was going to buy the thing anyways...

In fact, the only stuff I buy from GW is models and paints... brushes, glue, EVERYTHING else I can get from a hobby shop for a lower price and a better quality. The only reason I buy their paints is because well... I can't be bothered to try another company... even if they would be cheaper...

Can't be bothered to try another company? Sounds like GW has you by the short hairs. Vallejo's range of paints are almost identical to those peddled by GW; better apints, same colors, less expensive.

lol... something like that I guess... I'll probably shift over to a cheaper company when I move back to the states (I have a feeling that college will find me quite broke ).

Until then, the GW paints I've bought will serve me well... that and generic flat black spray paint.

well the skinny i hear on this from the manager on my local GW is that the cap for the propellant is prone to pop off when in use. this is due to the afore mentioned second rate piece of crap issues

lol and here My GW was trying to sell it as a "Starter Airbrush" for small use.

on the paint side I find Reaper Master Series and P3 (Privateer Press) paints are pretty darn good imho and abit cheeper for more.

Greetings everyone.....to quell the rumors.....here are the facts....the spray gun was removed because the plastic cap on the spray gun screws into a metal fixture (on the propellant I believe).....there you have it.

Try telling people (a large percentage of whom are youngsters) how to continuously screw plastic onto metal et voila.....stripped plastic caps on the spray gun....

As the Guinness folk say...."Brilliant!"

My tank brush works miraculously for drybrushing anyway....I will put my camo landraiders and rhinos against anyones airbrushed models any day of the week and twice on sunday....

Yes it's a fact that most GW hobby tools aren't quite the best "bang fot you bucks" you can get. On the other hands paints are not too bad, especially foundation and metallics. While I also use P3, Foundry, Vallejo Model colors, Vallejo Game Colors, Coat d'arms, Tamiya, Humbrol enamels, oil colors, Sennelier inks, Mig pigments....
Just adapting my paints to my idea and a good deal of modelling reading.

the reason for the recall;

the hose does break due to the pressures from the compressed air... the end of the hose that attaches to the metal cap has a nasty habbit of splitting and thus, it can blow off in the middle of your work.
not a huge threat to a typical hobbiest, but little kiddies who've never used a spray gun and might get their faces too close...

we're not sure if it's just one or two bad batches of guns, or if it's a true defect in all the guns, so to be safe, everything's been re-called for testing and possible retrofitting to fix the problem.

in all honesty; this is what happens when you go cheap and out-source your product work to some place like china! cheap workers = cheap product...

cheers!
