Default new range of washes

this summer, (ie: june!) will see the release of the line of washes which will totally replace the current set of inks. and it's definately a 'good' thing!
the new washes dry matt and not the nasty shiny as hell like the current inks do... you can even really heavily layer on the new washes and they'll dry nice and thin! dipping will be dead easy...

i expect to see alot more of our younger gamers in the area actually putting some effort into their models now as these new washes are god-sends for those who can't paint deamon-style. (trust me, even first time painters can use these new washes to produce a great table-top standard model!)
vamp count players for example now only need to spray their skellies white and then give 'em a dip into the black ink! paint the shield & details and blam - done!

hopefully pre-orders for the new set of washes will be coming in may... i can't wait to get my grubby little paws onto a set for myself!

cheers!

yayness. I'm not a good painter (and I often get bored painting quite quickly), so anything that makes life easier and painting quicker and gives a better end result is more than welcome.

the manager of my local GW has been ranting about these for a couple of months now. just about made everyone sick of hearing about it to be honest but seeing how i've never seen an single mini he's painted that wasn't smothered in ink i can see why he's excited. what i hear (repeatedly ) is that they'll be in the foundation style pots, making them kind a pain to use but will give a very good finish. typical GW thinking...devinely useful but ungodly painful to use

not 100% sure about the price yet... should know more towards may as we'll be really promoting them, as hairy puts it, to the point of sickening everyone!

i'll see if i can get lucas to get a photo or two of these tomorrow... (no promises!) we played around with one of our paint class marines, basecoating it chainmail, then used the blue wash followed by a light mythril drybrush. it's exactly the kind of result you want for say, high elf or grey knight armour!!!
there also aren't nearly as many different washes now either. for example, instead of the current flesh wash/ chestnut ink/ brown ink range for anything brown, there's only going to be 2; a slightly darker version of the current flesh ink and a fairly dead-on brown ink... (the new names escape me right now - sorry!)

cheers!

Someone advised me to use a really diluted black water to paint over my model after it's been painted, to sort of bring out the color.

Are these washes similar just better?

there is a difference between a wash and an ink. I'm not the best person to tell you what tho.

a wash dries with a matt finish, (ie: non-shiny) the current inks dry really shiny and thus thing like cloth tend to look rather awful and unrealistic!
the new washes are basically a better & stronger version of simply watered-down paint...

oh and sadly, lucas forgot his camera today, so no chance at photos untill wed... (please don't hurt me!>.<)

as for the colours, i know we'll be getting;
- 2 borwns: 1 light + 1 dark. (think a refined flesh + brown wash)
- black
- blue
- red
- green

not sure about other colours, i actually wasn't working when we got to play with the new washes
however, we should soon get our staff set so we can show-off and promote them - at which point i'll be able to post a full list!

release is actually late may - after the slew of daemons which come out on the 10th. (so probably the two-four weekend, unless they decide to move it up as that's a big holiday for us canucks and thus our release shecdual can get changed last-minute...)

cheers!

Thanks for the info, Stitch. Too bad they're not coming out this month. Sounds like they could really make painting cloth/robes a lot easier.

I've seen pictures of these wash's been used. There is actually another company aisde from GW bringing out someting extrememly similar.

I've also seen te wash used first hand. Its incredible. I dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing. :P Its definetly good for getting really fast awesome looking models done. You simply basecoat the model and apply the wash, and it does everything. shades tones and small highlights.
This does mean that anyone can produce top standard paint jobs but what does this mean for painting competitions and golden demon etc?
while these do mean youre models look awesome with little effort, im one of those hobbyists who like to sit back and would rather paint an awesome model by hand with all the little details rather than just slap on some new wash to have it done fast. this is just one problem i find with the new washes, but dont get me wrong, they are a god send for fast top quality, and i think, the best thing coming out to accompany horde armys :P
(go go fast tyranids, Skaven armies )

Just a quick over-view of my two cents on the matter lol.

i think the new washes will really encourage people to actually 'paint' their armies now! we get lot of younger gamers especially who don't paint their stuff because they don't have the confidence in their own skills. these new washes will be a god send to them and will hopefully get them painting more and thus, improving!

the washes themselves IIRC are set for sale as a compleat on may 10th.
the full list of colours will come tonight.
price IIRC is about $30(can) for everything.

cheers!

Well at the risk of sounding a snob I dont like to play with anyone who doesnt at min basecoat and basic detail the minis. 2 colors MIN on 80% of the army unless its a proxy mini. I think this will be wonderful for those who dont paint for the lack of confidence. I may look into this. AS MUCH AS I DISLIKE GW PAINT PRODUCTS I have heard nothing but rave reviews on tis on and it may help make the Ratling all infantry APOC army possible.

i personaly like the inks ther are times when i want that shine and ther are ways to make it so they dont shine, but yes the washes will be great for less expirienced painters, i just dont understand why they dont add them to the line insted of replacing the inks. they used to have inks, washes, and glazes..........
