Two points to contribute:

1) The standard release schedule for new editions of WFB and 40k is six years. So that's a new release every 3 years. The next release of 40k is, therefore, due in 2010. It's not likely to be a substantial change on 4th Ed (which was widely described as 3.5 in any case) but will probably include a new boxed set to replace BfM, and a shiney new rulebook with a few tweaks and lots more updated pictures. Possibly, rules for superheavies may be incorporated along with cityfight rules. That's just idle speculation.

2) The Black Library is releasing an anthology called PlanetKill on 30 June 2008. Whether there's any relation between this and an alleged PlanetStrike 40k supplement, I have no idea.

following the fluff...Stormbirds were the preliminary form of planet strike transportation pre-heresy...for all the legions...not just Chaos...so would love to see a kit that could be used for loyalist chapters/pre-heresy legions as well...

Though if you're on the other side of the pond, I can understand why you say "This year" altogether =p

So it's just going to be drop pods then, not Thunderhawks or Stormbirds (which I assumed would be Chaos due to the fact that the Imperium was "upgrading" to Thunderhawks when the Horus Heresy occurred, and loyalists have since at least 99.999% converted over to T-hawk usage...)... Shame. I would have looked forward to being able to buy an $80 thunderhawk instead of a $400 one...

Hopefully so. With the new codex, Oblits only use "energy" weapons, and the current metal models have lots of projectile weaponry.

Chaos needs three new plastic sets, one of which would require remarkably little effort.

Oblits
Havocs

Chances are they'll get released together in coordination with another codex release. Like SM plastic devastators and the DA codex. Maybe codex forces of chaos?

Plastic drop pods have been in the offing for a long time mainly due to another company making an almost identicle offering in wait for it mdf sounds very dodgy but I have one of these and they look damn good and with a retail price of £15GBP aint badly priced either.

The misconseption that appocalypse is a money spinner for GW kinda suprises me if you look deeply GW are hemeraging money and have been for a while Apoc was a quick way out that fixes nothing.

The summer for GW is tied up with Orks out very soon and then 2 fantasy armies confirmed after that its all open. With the direction GW wish to take 40K being 2k starter game 1.5k and below phased out 5th edition doesn't to me sound that inprobable but as had been said basically a rehash of 4th.

Bare in mind though that alot of codexes need to be revamped before even GW can churn out another core rule set at the rate with which they keep on outdating there supposedly current codexes ( lets take Black templars and marines cheers jerv ) 2020 anyone ?

I like the metal Raptors, but plastics would be nice. Plastic Havocs would be nicer, but Oblits need it most thinks I.

5th is potentially a summer go because we want try and aim our big releases for when the majority of players, (ie: teens - young adults) are out of school!
look at it this way;
4th eidition was released in oct and sales for it were great! but then maybe 1 out of 10 'students' showed up at the stores afterwards... of corse, the reason was "homework"!

so now, by aiming for a summer release, everyone can get their new game, and play with their new toys for 2 whole months before the great enemy, (aka this "homework"), rears its ugly head again!

AND this totaly cool expansion! i mean id allready heard about the Plastic valkarie...and how much its going to cost. ~ISH from a now EX member of staff. now i find out theres a whole expansion planned! GOD damn you GW! i dont even own a copy of the 4th dition codex! and i now i need to get a 5TH when it comes out later this year! Damn you! Has'nt my Cash flow suffered enough because if Apoc! DAmn you GW for Releasing such shiny new flying things!!
