From bell of lost souls:

Hi all,

As usual, you faithful scribe is here to deliver what little rumor morsels we've scraped up from around the tubes.

The current rumors say there will be 9 special characters. So far these 8 have been mentioned:

Calgar -Ultramarines Master
Tigurius - Ultramarines Chief Librarian
Cassius - Ultramarines Master Of Sanctity
Sicarius - Ultramarines Captain
Shrike - Raven Guard Captain
Lysander - Imperial Fists 1st Captain
Pedro Kantor - Crimson Fists Master
Tu'Shan - Salamanders Master


We also have heard talk that the Land Raider will be rolled into an updated all plastic kit that will allow you to build all the basic variants in the codex (Standard, Crusader, Redeemer). ~I hope the rumored Redeemer's inferno cannons look like the Forgeworld siege dreadnought arm... that would be wicked!

There is also scuttlebutt regarding a re-cut of the maddening Land Speeder that might be easier to construct and some chatter regarding new scout bikers.

~As usual folks, caveat emptor, and if these don't pan out, you didn't hear these rumors from me I for one would be ecstatic to see the Salamander's get some love. Now what about those Iron Hands and White Scars GW? Haven't they been loyal for 10,000 years?

18" range template. you get to place the template within 18" of the sponsoon.

eh some chaos player was razzing me about it not being fair that loyalist marines have thunder hammers, and newer tech like the crusader or assault cannons and I said that fluff wise it made sense and he kept at it so sorry if I'm a little frustrated from it still. I didnt mean anything by it DK

nah its just one chaos player who whines alot when my loyalist army has something cool that his army doesnt, like thunder hammers, never mind the fact that he gets obliterators and defilers, deamon princes and mutations, marks that do some pretty cool stuff and way better psykers...

but I digress, sorry for the rant guys oh and DK warmaster is right when you can corrupt it you can have it!

Guess your right, Irish. It's just usually unique Chaos stuff is not as good as SM gear. The Defiler is ok, Oblits are good. I really don't care about not having Assault Cannons, I like my Reapers. Truthfully, I'd rather have Chaos Landspeeders than a LR variant. Chaos Fast Attack is a bit lacking. Oh well, there is always Apoc!

I was about to say that in apoc you can just model it as chaos and inform your opponent that its using loyalist rules but is corrupted, works beautifully especially if its just a friendly gaming group

I am appalled by these rumors.

The only way to have variety in my army is to take a Special Character that ALLOWS me to do so? Even in that Instance, I have to choose a character that represents a codex army in order to be different?

That is so infuriating, I wish I had an old fashioned Gorechild to take to GW headquarters.

I can understand reason and subtlety, I'm no madman. But no ability to create your own chapter that actually has in game benefits? No options for generic honor guard? Special Hqs and elites?

No, If I want variety in my chapter I have to take a SPECIAL CHARACTER HQ, from an adherent/renegade of the Codex Astartes.

Incoherent, idiotic, bland, tasteless, unprofessional hatemongerers Those lot.

And I doubt there will be any compensation (Highly) or options to make your army stand out from the 15 other SM players lined up next to you.

*Entire room raises hand*

Frak, Feth and damn it all. GW can shove it so far up their corporate collective that the squats will feel the feedback.

The LR Kit sounds quite cool, as I'm still trying to build up the nerve to try and build my crusader again after 2 years. That kit is a pain. New landspeeders would be nice too.

the current marine 'dex is a pile of ****... loved by power gamers for blatently abusive format, the traits system is easily the very worst rules set the studio has ever concieved of! (ie: it's not hard to understand why the two who wrote that book were fired within a year!)
no disadavantage anywhere, and amazingly cheap & over-powered advantages.

i mean really, giving the ass-can the rending rule was plain dumb... allowing a smurf army to take 6 infiltrating devastator squads is equally dumb! giving the entire army true grit on top of it...

honestly, i can't wait for the day when we can finally burn the current 'dex and all be happy with things like combat squads!

Ah, Finally. I was hoping my rant would draw Stitch into plain sight.

Now I do agree with you, Traits were overtly abused and were the boon to power gamers, that is to say, SOME traits.

Though I didn't mention traits in my post (Strawhatting) Not all traits were broken.

Cleanse and Purify I think was quite acceptable, among others. The only Broken beneficial traits IMO are the Counterattack/True grit combo, Infiltrators, Furious charge and tank hunters. All the rest seemed perfectly alright.

However, yes the drawbacks were hardly drawbacks at all.

But this is the point i'm putting across, plain and simple: Where's the Variety?

i would go into detail about just how great the new 'dex will be... but obviously i can't as i really like my job!

suffice to say, the new 'dex will be worth it, and there will still be lots of variety and distinction between chapters...

Just curiously, why are SM more deserving of a way to differentiate individual armies than other groups in the game? Seems odd to me.

Not sure SM need a new LR variant, as they are already over-supplied as it is, though hopefully vanilla termies will lose their veteran skills to keep it in line with the new DA codex. In that vein the points for the rhino should be dropping too.
