Necron is being written by Jes Goodwin (been a year in the works so far) and is scheduled for 2009, supposedly.

And as for where I got all this info, I decided to just hit up Google and see what I could find.

i can't see them letting a scultper write a codex however?! (sorry jes!) more likely he's the lead for model concept/design.

the current line-up of releases;
- feb: lotr harad
- march: vamp counts
- april: mordor or daemons
- may: daemons or mordor

beyond that, i'm saying noffink!

cheers!

Oops, yeah, sorry. Got my info all mixed up. But who knows, maybe Jes is a talented multitasker?!

From what I heard, the Dark Eldar are slated to be completely revamped model-wise by Jes Goodwin who has been working on them for about a year already (he just finished the new Eldar Jetbike model).

The Necrons are supposedly getting the "feel no pain" rule instead of the "we'll be back"
ability to help balance their power.

hmm... feel no pain... seems about the same as WBB... considering what it does... and it will feel a lot better to not see models walk back up...

though... honestly, WBB was more colorful...

not that it really matters... right?

And... though Jes Goodwin is a great sculptor (he models are all amazing!) if he is writing the codex, I will be very surprised... what with all this new talk of balance and the like...

Not that the Guard really need a revamp, but I know I'd love to see a new codex along with plastics for most, if not all, of the main regiments, and some more tanks. How about Vanquishers, Conquerors, Executioners, and Exterminators in standard GW games?!

Thats the great part about it. As long as the Guard have enough infantry to keep the enemy busy and enough tanks to kill 'em with, there is no need for a new codex!

Feel no pain for necrons will be a *****. 3+ followed by a 4+? That would make them a very hard army...then again with fire wariors getting a 3+ in 5th (just a rumour, I know) It would appear more armies are becoming MEQ's. I think that necrons will be pushed over the model though. Their points cost better go up, so their model count will go down... As for codex: Space Marines/Dark Eldar/Deamons, we've been hearing these rumours forever. Who knows if theres any truth to them. Imperial Guard seems the most realistic for a revamp. They need to put the Baneblade in the codex, and theres rumours of a plastic valkarie as a transport option. If that's true, I'm starting Guard.

The hell they're putting the Baneblade in the Codex! It's a super-heavy vehicle, that's FW's domain.

And damn, stitch! Why?! Why do you have to bring us such bad news?! Another LotR expansion? FFS! That's why everything's going down the drain, LotR. It attracts game-store kids, angering true gamers, and it's more money out the window!

Other than that, I'd say the next wee while looks good (Bar 5th Ed, which is meant to nerf some uber-rules).

Heh heh, calm down. If they did put it in, in a 1500 point game it would make up nearly half of the Guard army, leaving barely enough points for two decent troop choices. Anyways, why not put it in? Fluff wise they aren't that common in small scale battles, but hey, it's the Guard! It could also lead GW to selling more Baneblades, which they sure aren't opposed to.

Lol. I despise such a suggestion as I used to face Guard regularly .

But it's unrealistic. How are armies meant to compete with that, before it destroys them completely? And saying that it takes up almost 1/2 of the point in a 1500 point game is exaggerating, it's dead on 1/3, a difference of 17%, or 250pts. That's another tank or squad.

I know what you mean. I watched a Blue Table Painting battle report, Guard vs. Tau, and the Guard had a Hellhammer. The Tau never stood a chance.

Yeah. The Guard maybe should have Codex access to some of the tanks in the Armoured Companies Chapter Approved list?

Jes did most of the Eldar as well didn't he? Its a good thing if he's in charge of the Dark Eldar as well.

Guard + Necrons are obvious, as they (ignoring the inquisition) are the only core codexes left to be done, tho i wouldn't expect them within the year, maybe nov/dec for one of them, but i wouldn't expect it sooner.

Everyone knows the space marines are being touched up.

The baneblade will not be put into the codex. But from what I've heard on here, Valkiries might just be - in the same way as SMs get drop pods - but then that's sticking a flyer into mainline gaming, which isn't really fair.

I would imagine that in the far future (as in, ten or more years time) the Leman Russ will become one or two complete kits. In my mind they would be a Siege set and a Battle set.
Siege would include parts to make one of: Demolisher, Executioner, Exterminator.
Battle would include parts to make one of: Leman Russ Battle Tank, Vanquisher, Conqueror.

but like i said, this would be something in a decade or so, if ever =P

That would be quite good, I think (The Leman Russ thing). But as you said, it's unlikely.

Brother_Ambrose: codex daemons is confirmed! (and no i can't yet give away the release date! *cough*spring*cough*)
it will be an army book for both fantasy & 40k - and yes the rules are rather tasty!

that eldar jetbike might see the light of day come the summer as there's huge mass releases that will hit... still, as of right now it's purely a "concept model" so there's nothing official about it actually being released.

cheers!

What possiblities are rumored for the Guard? I have yet to see anything posted that is more than personal hopes and dreams for the future of the guard.

MINE? : Sharpshooters becoming a pure BS 4.
