Why? Rending is too easily abused and the vehicle rules need to be changed anyways... tanks are too easy to kill and MCs are to hard... a middle of the road needs to be established.

Rending is fine, but tanks are definitely too weak.

Roboute doesn't make sense. He was beat and stabbed senseless by Fulgrim, with the anathame that nearly killed Horus. If the SM, in the Golden Age of the Crusade, couldn't cure it, and only Chaos Magick savedhim, why would Papa Smurf be any different.

IMHO the only primarchs making sense to come back would be Corax or Russ. Or Sanguinius, due to the prophecy of his re-incarnation.

on the point of specialist games, Inquisitor is pretty much the only GW game where you need a grand total of 1 miniature to play a game. For which, using ebay, you can get your model for as little as £5/$10 - and the rulebooks free to download as well! =)

Anyway Gw has said at public press meetings and stock functions and such that they are a Model making company not a place that makes wargames they just produce rules so you can play with there models...that is all
I've heard of someone from GW say something like this before but it is not true.

If I say I am a space marine it doesn't mean I am.

It seems extremely interesting to me that GW seem to distance themselves from their own rules and try and put model making and painting at the forefront of the hobby - as if it was their choice what people decided to take from the game. It seems to me that GW want to shy away from the responsibility of the quality of their own rules.

As far as most people are concerned, GW make war games and the rules are the most important part.

Are they want-aways or have they lost touch?

So why isn’t there a serious effort to create a skirmish variant for 40K? Not Kill Team or Combat Patrol but a serious stand-alone skirmish system, with consistent official support, that uses the existing codexes with gameplay aimed specifically at small games with 10 - 20 troops and a vehicle.

I think the rules more than anything need tweaked. the D6 mode of combat resolution is far too limited. all to hit, wound etc is based on a system that doesn't alloy enough seperation between the best and worst. Let's take BS for an example: the best chance you have of hitting your target is 83% no matter if your BS is 5 or 10! A die roll of 1 always fails. why not expand everthing to two D6? this would allow the best BS to have a 91.6% chance of hitting. That seems much more elite than 83%. You can expand this to all phases of the game if needed. I think it would allow a touch more diversity among skill levels for different units and races.
Not sure how to quote boxes but these two parts inspired me. I think that I'll try monkeying with the rules a bit...

personally, i dont have a problem with the rules set, overall. sure there are problems here and there, but do i play the rules? of course not, i play tactics. rending could be tweaked a little bit, but honestly its just overused.

but honestly, 40k works well because its so SIMPLE
all you need is a d6. thats it. no searching through a plastic shopping bag of dice to find that one special thing you need. you dont need a hand truck for sll of your rulebooks that explain every little situation there could possibly be.
lets take rending for example. sure, you may say that the harliquins kiss shouldnt really be able to kill a tank, but think for a minute. there more then one way to skin a cat! he could stick the thing in a view slit and fire it at the driver, killing him and then the driver breaks the tank. you dont know. a genestealer doesnt have to go through the thick front armour of the land raider, he could rip open the top hatch, drop down, and wreck the place.

but also, if youre assaulting a tank with harlies then youre an idiot

If you ask me, GW should start bringing races back, but then I'm one of THOSE people. BRING BACK THE $&"@*$! (didn't say it, you can't beat me ) It'll never happen, which is the same reason they won't bring the Primarchs back. If I recall rightly there WAS a Russ model, which suggests MAYBE there were rules? So what happened to them? GW blanked 'em out just like the $&"@*$. The story is just too stagnated to repair now, yes they have the plot hooks, but they have no simple way to justify their use.

Damn but I wish they'd bring out rules for Russ though!

I would Love (Gah, as a chaos player this is killing me) to see the Primarch's return (My heart just failed). But if you brought back, say papa smurf. Then EVERYONE would go Smurfs just to have a Primarch. Same situation with other primarchs.

Maybe a standardised Primarch stat line (Like Commanders) which you can customise a bit by spending a set amount of points. Like for 200pts (No where near accurate but hey) you get a Primarch. Then you have 100pts to spend on up to three upgrades to his stats, Then you get to pick from "Primarch Wargear". Which is basically a tooled up version of the normal armoury.

And then Marine armys that have their own Codex, (Blood Angels, Space Wolves etc. And Smurfs would have to get it) Get their own special primarch.

Also the Primarchs would be a 0-1 choice. Even in Apocalypse. Otherwise people would max out on primarchs.

I think something like that could work. As long as the 0-1 rule is in place it doesnt unbalance them too much. True they wouldn't be true to the fluff but what marine is? In the fluff A Marine could happily punch his way through a tank just to use the toilet.

I would gladly partake in a campaign where something actually was changed... but GW is too stupid to make one... *sighs*

maybe they should do a "throw back" kit
i collect sports jerseys and the old ones are most coveted
much like older marks of marine armor
lots of people are going preheresy
so why not introduce preheresy
armors
that would light a fire under some modelers
