Default AP vs FNP

So yeah, do you get to take Feel No Pain against weapons that armour pierce you?

Like i know you cant against instant death / double toughness and power weapons, things that dont give you an armour save.

But AP also doesnt give you an armour save so do you get feel no pain?

Cheers ^_^

Only if it is AP1 or AP2, if its AP3 or higher you still get your FNP as long as its not double your toughness as well.

E.g. if your a marine with FNP

str9 AP4 will give you an armour save but no FNP,
str9 AP3 will ignore armour and take away your FNP
str7 AP3 will give you no armour save but you will get FNP
str7 AP4 will give you an armour save and FNP.

That help?

Petey is correct. The AP value of the weapon being fired makes a big difference.

not quite...

in your example;
- a thousand sons' bolter has a S4 ap3 value. against a plague marine, the ap3 would ignore your armour save, but you'd get a 'feel no pain' roll. (S4 is not double your base T4!)

- a space marine fires his plasma gun with it's S7 ap2 profile at our poor plague marine. in this case, the plague marine would only get a cover save! (if applicable).
while the S7 is not double the plague marine's base T4, the ap2 not only ignores his armour save, but also takes away his 'feel no pain' save as well as it's simply that strong! (even a plague marine is going to really feel the energy equivalent of a small sun exploding in his face!)

cheers!

Ok yeah that makes sense cheers stitch. But why no FNp against the plasma gun? Sure i understand your analogy of a small sun but why? Is it a rule or what?

Thanks ^_^

feel no pain was changed slightly in the new 5th edition rules because it was a bit too good! (blame plague marines!!!)
basically, armies like guard who only have a basic S3 had little to no chance against plague marine armies... hitting on 4's and wounding on 6's is bad enough! combine that with the enemy getting a 3+ save and then a 4+ FNP save and you can understand why it made things a bit too harsh!
hell, even S4 attacks had little effect on those plague marines...

so the really good guns which are supposed to stop even 'uber tough things like those plague marines got the boost they needed... (most armies simply never had nearly enough S8 or better guns/attacks to throw at the plague marines.)

cheers!
