Default BASES! O_o

In the IG errata FAQ it says that Heavy weapons are based together for convinience of movement and are treated as 2 seperate models. Does that mean, if I wanted, I could put them on seperate bases if they stay within 2" of eachother?

i personally don't, but there are FW heavy IG models that are actually meant for 2 bases...i guess that means it's okay ? check with other members to be sure though :]

Following GW's ridiculous decision of rules being RAW, and reading that as written, then yes it would be quite allright. However... That also brings up the question (I've heard it before).. If models are on seperate bases, but considered moving together (familiar and psyker) can I target only the familiar? That would be the next best thing I check on before you jump onto basing them separately.

yes it is perfectly ok to base your shooter and loader on seperate bases.

heck its what i do as i lack extra infantry and plenty of heavy weapons.

i have just 2 regular guardsmen on their own bases and a heavy weapon on its base. before a game i will paint a stripe on the gunner and loaders base. this way i can keep track of whos where.

now theres this special rule that says if your opponent has as maining wounding hits as their are members in your squad they can force you to roll a wounding for one member. if they hit the gunner the weapon is now useless. if they hit the loader the weapon keeps going (at least thats how i understand it)

yes indeed! they're still guardsmen and thus their 'normal' base is still the 25mm round base - not the huge nasty thing they come with... (which as gw says is for convience not playability!)

i've put all my weapon teams on regular 25mm bases simply because;
a) the squad looks a helluva lot better as a whole rather than 8 guys + dreadnought base!
b) it's much, much easier to manouver the unit through buildings, fortified positions and such!
after almost 3 years, i have yet to have a single opponent say my weapon teams are illegal becuase they're not on the base they come boxed with...

cheers!
