Default Can independent characters.....

Can a Terminator armoured Space Marine or Chaos Space Marine Lord join and deepstrike with a unit of Terminators?

I know the Space Marine Cpt could if he had a Terminator Command Squad but what if he joined a Termie Assault Squad....

I think they can but I want to know what you lot think because the Rulebook isn't saying one thing or the other.

well the bbb states that a character joining or leaving a unit happens during the movement phase, not during setup. so i'd say they would be seperate entities during deployment and, as the are held in reserve, would be rolled for seperatly.

so no, can't be done unless it's a retinue imo.

i could very well be wrong though, this is just my interpretation.

Hairy has his facts straight. In his retinue he can deepstrike, alone he can deepstrike, but not with just some squad.

because tactically it would restrict them. if they are retinue, the IC hasn't got the choice to leave them, but if they are not taken as retinue, then you can have the IC leave if you wish.

also, there isn't the option for retinues in chaos anymore (edit: beaten to it by Ides on this point)

what about giving the Terminator Champ a teleport homer? then if one is available before the other, you choose the squad to arrive first, then they can use it for when the IC arrives.

as long as you pass both reserve rolls for the IC & the terminators, 99.9% of players will not have any problems allowing you bring the IC & squad in together...
same deal for wanting an IC to ride in a transport coming in from reserve; you'd need to pass both the reserve rolls for the IC & squad you want him/her/it to ride in with.

talk it over with your opponent before the game starts. generally the vast majority of players have no problems with such a move!

cheers!

yea you have to make 2 rolls, but fluff wise it should make sense for an IC to teleport in with a squad. im sure nobody you would like playing against in the first place would have a problem with it.

in a friendly game i'd go for that...

but in a tournament, i wouldn't be able to allow it so you'd have to make both rolls seperately... but then that's the nature of a tournament; it's a bit more copetitive so everything really should come down to smart tactical choices and well though-out stratagies!
if you take an army that relies on a certain 'killer punch' like your libby deep striking with your termies squad, then you really should have forseen the dangers of such a choice!

cheers!
