Default Drop Troops!!!

I've been reading a lot of strategies involving drop troops lately and I'm considering adopting the doctrine (626 in particular has made is sound very appealing). I've got some questions about how troops enter play though.

Lets take a platoon of 1 command and 2 squads. Now, would I have to deep stirke the entire platoon at once or can I deploy 1 squads conventionally and then deep strike the other? Also, if I were to just deep strike the entire platoon, do you deep strke them all in the same turn or 1 squad per turn?

Any help is apprieciated!!!

yep! the only rule here is that all the elements from each platoon must deploy at the same time.
so for example, you could deploy say 'Squad A' normally at the start of the game, and then deep strike 'Squad B' & 'Commmand squad' using the normal rules for reserves.

what you cannot do is say on turn 2 deep strike the command squad, but wait until say turn 4 to deep strike the other infantry 'Squad B'!

no, as a platoon is a single FOC choice, all elements must be deployed at the same time, even when using alternate deployment modes!
so if you roll a successfull reserves roll on turn 3, then any and all elements of the platoon must deep strike at that time! (sorry, no holding onto seperate units!)

basically, when playing drop troops, a set of improved coms is mandetory to ensure your lawn darts come in when it's most benificial to your plan/s!

cheers!

Thanks! Very helpful as always!

My only other question about be the deep strike itself. Can I deploy the squads independent of eachother (in the same turn of course)? For example deep strike squad A over here and Squad B over here? Or do I have to plunk down one model and make a happy circle of a million guys around him? Hard to see how that would be possible without hitting a wall/edge/enemy, not to mention scatter off the board and lose like 30 guys in one stupid shot

yes. you can deploy one here deploy one there and deploy those 4 meltas of you command squad right next to that hq of his and blast it to hell.

if i read the codex and rule book right(big gulp here) you should be able to deploy different squads where you see fit.

yep! just as in normal deployment at the start of the game, each infantry and/or command squad is an independant unit and can be dropped wherever you want! you simply deploy them all at the same time because all 3-6 units count as 1 FOC choice...

best bet is to try and deploy as many units as possible in the same general area for mutual support though... unlike marines, guardsmen obviously can take on the enemy unit for unit and win!
send 30-40 guardsmen to take care of a flank mind, and they'll clean it up quite nicely.

cheers!
