| Can anyone explain to me the usefulness of flamer weapons? I have yet to use one o fany of my games but yet the manager of my local store was going on and on about them the other day. I have flamers in both my IG and Dark Angel armies but i have yet to use them. I have an inferno cannon in my IG army also but again i have yet to use it. |

| Corporal ![]() | well hordes in cover are a bugger to get out. i mean guardsmen in bunkers are as good as marines or in buildings they effectively get saves agains tanything as well as receiving pretty much free carapace armour. flamers remove cover and make crispy guardsmen/nids/orks/ anything. a game i was playing againt raveladvice and plagemonk, teaming up with the barnet ravel advices deep striking raptors burned swathes of guardsmen. i mean literally several full platoons were melted before they were stomped by the ogryns. a good game........ |

| basically if you've got a squad pouring fire at close range into an enemy unit thats in cover flamers are ideal weapons. Example: 10 Guardsmen in cover that give them a C.Save of 3+: you get close up with a squad of marines with a flamer (or 2 with Cleanse and Purify). Now those lovely IG have got the choice between using their cover save to protect against the Bolters (that would normally rip right through them) but that doesn't really protect them as the Flamer ignores cover saves and so will take a great big chunk out of them with no save at all...you can't choose to mix cover saves and normal saves in a squad, everyone takes one or the other ![]() A great combo in theory is using cleanse and purify to get a flamer and plasma gun in the same squad- that way small squads of enemy heavy infantry (Terminators for example) are screwed. They can use their normal save against the flamer but the plasma rips through them, they can choose to use a cover save but the flamer makes a similar mockery, or they could use their paltry invulnerable save of 5+ which even bolters can get past 2/3 of the time... |

| The best advantage to using flame template weapons is your normal BS is null and void. They always hit, you just need to roll to wound with these weapons and anything partially under the template counts as being fully under the template.I have seen up to 14 models killed from one shot with a flame weapon. 14 tightly packed guants versus a dark eldar destructor, "not pretty"

| Kriegsmeister ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ya flamers are good assault weapons. The biggest thing is that they ignore cover saves and like prince said you dotn have ot roll to hit. You can get a lot of kills that way if you do it right. BvL

| Just make sure you get all the possible kills you can under the template. Sisters with flamers and heavy flamers are some death-dealin biotches. Inferno cannons are really nasty.

| the main thing to be carefull of when using flamers is that you could accidently leave yourself out of assault range by killing everything within 6"! ![]() a good idea if you're going to make use of flamers is to either; a) put the flamer in a transport... a rhino for example has that handy top hatch which wil allow you to pop up and pull off a 'drive by flaming' on some poor, unsuspecting enemy! b) stick the flamer into a drop pod/deep strike with it... be cavalier! don't hesitate to try and go big and land right near the enemy! more often than not, it pays off and you can take a huge chunck from an enemy squad with the flamer before the rest of your men open up with their rapid firing guns! cheers!

| Discord Chaos and death!! ![]() ![]() ![]() | The drop pod thing works as Drop pods never crash/destroy themselves well going off the board does not count but Flamers and then the Hellhound o.O 24inches flamer template on a roll of 4 everything under the template is hit.....

Well, I'll tell you that those *&%@$#&* flamers are nothing to laugh at. They burnt through dang near everything I had on the table. Later I played another friend who had heavy flamer Sentinels and a Hellhound. The Inferno Cannon is freakin' brutal. I gotta get me some more heavy flamers.
