i agree with astral hawk. you SHOULDNT give them your list, as it takes away from the reality (?) of the game. if it was 'real' then you wouldnt really know that the enemy had. just make sure you have weapons/any upgrades you can modeled or painted on. if you can show the upgrade, like a psychic power, have a list on hand! its the easiest thing you can do.

you can tell your opponent that you have a 'count as' weapon as you could normally see what weapon your commander has. on a different note, if a model has something on it that you DIDNT give it, such as a plasma pistol that you are using as a bolt pistol, or a powerfists that is actually a powerweapon, you should tell them about that.

did it say on the list whether or not it was shadowsun. even if it was the model it could have still been a normal commander. for instance i use col. schaeffer's model as a lt. in my guard army.

i dont know about at your tournaments but in hattisburg the owner will usually take up a copy of every players list incase their is anyone cheating.

so he takes the list then dishes out cards at random. whoever gets 1 & 2 battle it out and so on and so forth. even if someone tries to say he has a power he didnt pay for greg can just come over and say no you didnt you have this

and also if your opponent is constantly taking out a new list. stop him. if you see him doing it do something about it. heck

him: im gonna use ...... from my librarian
you: wait didnt you use ...some other power... last turn.
him: no here let me show you my list and that i do have this power *goes under the table and pulls out a new list*

you: um no lets use this list that you had on the table the entire time
him: curses foiled.
you: what you thought that i was stupid enough to fall for something like that?
him: it worked last time

you:Well, there's this passage I've got memorized that sort of fits this occasion. Ezekiel 25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of the evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and goodwill, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Emperor when I lay my vengeance upon thee!

*you then prombtly pull out a bolt pistol and execute him

He used it as Shadowsun before that turn, and also its base size is different. It was definitely Shadowsun before then, and it wouldn't have worked as a commander anyway... it needs a 40mm base ( I think, the one that is the next size up from the smallest) to be a Shas'el or Shas'o.

Back to my original point, it's sportsman like/in the interest of having a fun game to just answer the question and enjoy yourself.

Astral Hawk, I think we're talking about slightly different things. I highly advocate having your written list on-hand and on top of the table - I just object to having to hand it over to your opponent beforehand and revealing all your 'secrets'.

Like most of you, I use the cool special character models as my regular HQs and such and find it helpful / sportsmanlike to do the following:

- During deployment, call out if your model is representing anything else and anything not WYSIWYG for the game/tournament (e.g. "This is a Farseer, not Eldrad Uthuan, and he has a Singing Spear, not a Witchblade. It's pretty much the same thing, except he can throw it for 12"...).

- When deploying vehicles, I always call out "This is Wave Serpent #1...." This coincides, of course, to how its written on my list and prevents the "shell game" of units suddenly appearing from a vehicle where its most conveniant. My serpents are armed with different weapons too, so it makes them easy to identify should there be suspicion and its keeps everyone honest. I've stopped, in this edition, telling people what unit is inside the Serpent however, as them's the rules.

- If an opponent asks about a special rule while I'm deploying/playing, I'm happy to explain it to them as well as show them the codex. Eldar's full of funky rules.

Anyway, hope this is helpful to someone
