K, in the official rules, an assault marine testing for difficult terrain DIES on a 1. That, is stupid. Jetpack troops should get an armour save. Period.

I reason, why armoursave if your going to cram your face into a jagged rock with your jetpack on, thus shattering your skull, nose and neck in the process?
I think thats how GW would probably reason.

Sleep deprived mind has read former statements and produced said short dialogue:

*Assault Marine Sergeant speaking to his squad* 'Ok men... We need to assault those flash gitz just over this stretch of terrain... Now, lets go!' *squad moves out. They land and begin hacking the flash gitz to bits. One Assault marine lands in pot hole, wobbles and weaves, then falls over and pierces his helmet on an extremely sharp pebble. He promptly explodes into small bits. 'AHHH GOD-EMPEROR DAMNIT! Didn't anyone tell Jenkins to watch out for potholes? THRONE that kid was a Primarch short of a Legion... Allright, take his wallet. We'll stop by McDonalds on the way back to the Keep.

That's possibly the funniest 40k dialogue I've ever read... But sadly, that kinda thing happens every day in the dark war-torn battlefields of the 41st millenium.

But youve also got to think of it from the otherside as well,the test doesnt actualy mean the marine has died-remeber a 40K battle only represents a a very smalll time period in reality!Models who are removed are not actualy dead they are the non effective ones,in a campaign you would roll after the battle to see what is the ultimate fate of said model
The trooper could have tripped but he could also have become entangeld or made a bad landing and injured themselves-how many Para and Airborne are injured in every jump (lots-trust me I should know), he may even have injested somthing into the turbine on his jet pack destroying it meaning he now has several 100lbs of metal strapped to his back!
Basicly just because they faikl the test doest mean they are dead-same with vehicles just because they fail a difficuklt terrain test doesnt mean they are destroyed-they may just have become beached/grounded or thrown a track link!

well yes,
in the warhammer games not every "casualty" removed is "dead".
however it's the fact that the person even counts as a casualty is what Ry/Enea is frustrated about (I'm assuming it's Ry, because he was on MSN at the time of these posts xD)

when i give a plasma pistol, to, say, oh i dont know my epistolary?
i make it master crafted, so that if i do roll a 1 i can reroll

of course it is 1/12 chance that i roll another 1 but its still better

Then I wonder why a vehicle destroyed rating gives you the option of not even being injured... Getting thrown from a truck going 50 miles per hour seems like it'd do more damage than a botched landing. It'd be cooler if the jump infantry had to roll a 4+ first to see if it even injured them, or something.

well, you have armour...
plus a vehicle can be destroyed in very different ways. if ammo detonated it could blow up torwards one side and the people in the compartment side OPPOSITE to blast side are safe.
40k is meant to represent every eventuality
