Sniper Question

Now I know this sounds completly stupid and it probably is but I was wonderign can snipers actually snipe iv'e read over the rules and it doesnt say.

It most likely is and this is the most stupidest post mad but meh.

Are you refering to more..selective targetting? Than i'd refer you to the inquisitorial codexes for that answer.

sniper weapons hit and wound on fixed rolls but can't select their target within a unit, only a vindicare assassin can do that.

Vindicares are beyond snipers, the ONLY targeting restrictions that apply them to are Range and Line of Sight, they're the only unit that can ignore so many rules. Want to get that last guy on your team in combat killed so the rest of your army can open up on the enemy squad fighting him? execute him with the vindicare...etc

Can they really do that? I though shooting into close combat was absolutely forbidden. I don't have my codex with me unfortunately, but I'm pretty sure that not even a Vindicare can do that. They don't ignore that many rules.

it does say they can ignore all targeting restriction except for range and line of sight, so yeah they could fire into combat. never thought of that before.

just think about it, your enemy crashes his prize assault unit into one of your squads with the intention of rolling up your firing line and staying out of your army's guns by staying in combat. That last vital trooper dead by the vindicare's hand could mean the difference between defeat and earning yourself a bucket of pts as you open up within rapid fire range mwahahaha.

Remember that the Vindicare has a pistol too..a Str5 Ap1 pistol! and with the only restrictions being Range and LoS he can shoot at a different unit with each shot, not much but if say 2 eldar units were both a model away from being at half strength (and therefore unable to occupy table quarters, capture objectives etc) thats a skill that could definitely come in handy.

So I could get a Vinicare for my Custom chapter, which is a ranged chapter, but I would half to get the DH codex right? Would that be worth it getting a Vindicare for my Chapter?

You would also need an Inquisitor as part of the force. Inquisitor Lord, actually because the way the Allies option is set up, the Vindicare takes up the Allied Elites slot, so to get an Inquisitor, you have to take the Lord as an HQ slot. But the Inquisitor can be outfitted to be of the shooty variety, which is really what they're more effective being, anyway.

But yes, you'll need either the Daemonhunters or Witchhunters Codex. The Vindicare and Inquisitor Lord are in both, although the Lord will have different options depending on whether you go DH or WH.

I seriously believe that the shoot into combat ability and kill your own men ability as being too much of a stretch for the Vindicare's rules.

If you really wanted to use it, go ahead. But it feels as just a bunch of rules lawyering.

Or maybe im too nice =/
I let my opponents take their armour save when Turbo-ing against my psycannons/incinerators :P

ok I have two opposite answers to the same question. I want to know can ratlings with snipers choose who they hit ie the power fis model or the sergeant

No. That comes from the Vindicare's Marksman ability. Normal sniper rifles do not confer this ability.

I`ll have to go with Rosenadel, as far as i remember the Vindicare is the only shooty unit that can pick a model within the squad to shoot

Other SQUADS may do this by making more wounds than there are models in the targeted squad if they do that, you can choose the target for the remaining wounds - or i may be wrong and you can only choose to have the remaining wounds fall on the 'sarge' of the squad

Hope that made any sense.

I think what you mean is that if more wounds than models in the unit are inflicted, then the player whose unit inflicted the wounds may choose a model within the unit to take the first wound. All other wounds are allocated as normal.
