|  tau battlesuit Q's well, i just got my butt literally handed to me on a silver platter last night during league play by an oshava list... (again, the dice kicked down hard...) however, i've got a few little queries about battlesuits as i'm not a huge tau expert by any means! 1) can a battlesuit have 3 weapons & a 4+ invulnerable save? or does the shield generator use-up a hard point? 2) is there any way to give a tau commander a both a 2+ armour save and a 3+ invulnerable save? (i know iridium armour gives the 2+ save, but can't find out where the invulnerable comes from...) 3) does losing shield drones to shooting count for determining if a battlesuit unit has to take a moral test for taking 25% casulties? (my opponent used 3 single suits each w/1 shield drone) thanks for the help! cheers!

|  well i did play tau so... Q1) can a battlesuit have 3 weapons & a 4+ invulnerable save? or does the shield generator use-up a hard point? A1 the shield generator is a 'hard point' and thus 2 guns 1 shield generator ( unless you use a shield drone ) Q2) is there any way to give a tau commander a both a 2+ armour save and a 3+ invulnerable save? A2 3+ invulnerable save is a NO unless you use a shield drone or a shield generator which gives you a good invulnerable save but not as good.. | thanks mate! i'm really starting to think my opponent didn't clearly read their codex now... here's how each battlesuit was set-up; - plasma rifle - missile pod - flamer or fusion gun - 4+ invulnerable save on each suit a couple suits had hard-wired drone controlers w/1 shield drone. however, if i'm reading the codex right, he can't have all 4 of those above options can he??? i'll also have to get him to look up about losing drones in the shooting phase as he never tested on any of his monats... (commander farsight of corse being fearless didn't care much!) but it could have made a huge difference if some of those monats failed tests. and another question just to make sure i'm not missing anything; what pg# does it state that all suits in an o'shovah list are BS4 instead of BS3??? (that proved seriously annoying as i lost a good number of guardsmen to those 2-shot missile pods - including my rocket armed anti-tank squad!) thanks again for the help.  i think some revenge is in order now!cheers!

| WELL ms 626 Q1) a couple suits had hard-wired drone controlers w/1 shield drone. however, if i'm reading the codex right, he can't have all 4 of those above options can he??? A1) the 4+ invulnerable save on each suit is the drone not the suit, thus shoot his team with a gun that needs to take a invulnerable save and if the drone dies that means NO 4+invulnerable SAVE.....  but with the guns yes 4+ no.. | well im ready to execute this fool of a cheater. *presses a button on his desk and waits as an entire wall flips and shows row upon rows of bolter weaponary. then walks over picks a bolt pistol with pearl inlay and an ebony polish. "yes this will do nicely" i say. BRING FORTH THE CHEATER! wait just because he has Ld10 doesnt mean he cant be fearless. even the grand master of the grey knights is Ld10 even the average grey knight at Ld8 is fearless. they are considered fearless if they are given the special rule fearless. so if farsight has the rule for fearless then he is fearless. if he doesnt have it then he is not fearless. | well, i've notified the league officials now because it does seem 99.9% obvious that my opponent made some mistakes in his list and with his army's abilities... his 3 monat teams really hurt though. from memory here's what they looked like; plasma rifle + missile pod + flamer shield generator, tageting array, hard-wired drone controler w/shield drone. (maybe another toy or 2, never saw his list...) it wasn't untill afterwards that i started thinking about it that i got the feeling i'd been had... (i'd been checking up about target priority because he messed that up too!) but from what i can gather, his monats somehow has 5 hardpoints!  i'll let everyone know how this turns out. thanks again for the help, cheers!

| well i have a few question about this tau player. is he a new to the hobby. if so well then a few things are excusable as he could be trying to learn how to play. also how many games has he played and also in case he has already been playing for a while is he new to your hobby center? i would recommend sitting down with him and actually help him work on his list of what he can and can not have. i mean seriously the last thing we need is a lack of fresh blood and money coming into the hobby. |

| alrighty, well i've got a copy of my oppoent's list and i think i've figured most of it out, but just want to get everything right! now, i doubt very much if he cheated on purpose as he's a nice chap and all. however, i simply think he needs to read his codex! anyways, we're going to sit down & chat about the mistakes and such and then have a proper re-match! so here it is; HQ: commander farsight - 170 pts body guard: #1 cyclic ion blaster + plasma rifle. shield generator, multi-traker, drone controler, target lock, targeting array. 105 pts - now, i believe he's got 4 hard point options here? i'm assuming the multi-traker, drone controler & target lock are hard-wired... #2 fuision blaster + missile pod. shield generator, multi-traker, target lock, targeting array. 94 pts again, iirc there's 4 hard point options here yes? #3 & 4 plasma rifle + flamer + missile pod. shield generator, multi-traker, target lock, targeting array. 106 pts/each i count 5 hard point options? now, i figure that obviously all 4 models have been upgraded to characters as they each have wagear options... (not sure if it's included in the pts cost though. the unit included 2 shield drones as well for an extra 30pts... shaso r'myr - 190 pts 2 shield drones no clue aout his rules/equipment or such... i know that he had that assault 2 plasma rifle thingy and invulnerable saves out the wa-zoo! ELITES: crisis suit shas'vre plasma rifle + flamer + missile pod. shield generator, target lock, targeting array, multi-traker, drone controler w/1 shield drone 121 pts x3 not counting the hard-wired stuff, there's 5 hard points total? TROOPS: 10 fire warriors 100 pts 10 fire warriors 100pts HEAVY SUPPORT: broadside shas'ui twin-linked plasma rifle + railgun. shield generator, drone controler w/2 shield drones. 130 pts really not sure about this guy if he can take the generator or not? also, every model has a bonding knife as standard as it's a farsight army! again, thanks for all the help! and no, i don't think poorly of gamers/armies as groups - only as individuals!  cheers!

Not sure myself...the entry's in IA3. I'm fairly sure it's just a twin-linked plasma rifle and and normal shield generator. There was something else like a disruption pod on him but I don't know what it's ment to do ELITES: crisis suit shas'vre plasma rifle + flamer + missile pod. shield generator, target lock, targeting array, multi-traker, drone controler w/1 shield drone 121 pts x3 yep, thats 5 hard-points TROOPS: 10 fire warriors 100 pts 10 fire warriors 100pts HEAVY SUPPORT: broadside shas'ui twin-linked plasma rifle + railgun. shield generator, drone controler w/2 shield drones. 130 pts He can take the shield generator OR the controller and drones. The suit has to be upgraded to Shas'vre to take the controller as hard-wired equipment. also, every model has a bonding knife as standard as it's a farsight army! Only those with access to the armory. So the fire warriors and broadside don't have one. The details are in Farsight's entry under the "Blood Brothers" special rule.

| It does seem that there are many players who will sit down and make lists without properly consulting their 'dexes... its not like they're trying to cheat deliberately, its just they don't spend enough time making sure! I have played quite a few gamers who don't even know how many points their armies are, and even if they're legal! It does annoy me when they either expect help with their points every week at our local GW because they can't be bothered to do it themselves...

| for me this situation has simply pointed out how lazy people in general have become... that and a total lack of reading skills! i mean at least chaos players have a semi-decent excuse that there's 4 printings of their codex floating around out there!!!  cheers!
