Lets say for example, A chaos land raider.

Transports 10 men or 5 termis

question is, can anyone else other than the termis take the landraider as a transport? it doesn;t say that you can, but if thats the case why include the description on the land raider profile? especially if it can't carry anything other than termis?

It all depends on how you purchase the Land Raider. If you purchase it as an upgrade to a Terminator squad then only that squad can use it as a transport. However if you purchase a Land Raider as a Heavy Support choice than it can transport whom ever you wish to, as long as it still abides by the rules. Any squad that numbers 10 models or less (includeing IC's that have joined the unit) or a squad of 5 terminators or less.

keep in mind too that you can have, say a squad of 7 khorne berserkers + 1 lord in termie armour fit into a land raider!

typically the newer 'dexes will say something along the lines of "models in terminator armour count as two models for the purpose of determining if they can fit into a transport."
you simply can't go over the 10 model limit... so you can mix termie-armoured models with regular power armoured models, you simply can't transport multiple units! (IC's don't count against that limit of corse!)

Sweet I was wondering how that worked. So purchase as a heavy support choice!

also bear in mind that if you are playing escalation, you need to roll for the land raider and the transported unit seperately if the land raider is taken as a heavy support choice

until 5th ed - then you can take it as the terminators' transport and still move other units around, or so i beleive

5th edition does indeed bring back the 'taxi service' of old! the only constraint now on dedicated transports, (beyond the fact they're still not scoring units!) is that ONLY! the unit they were bought for may begin the game deployed inside the vehicle!
