How are New SPace marines made?

I've searched, and just get confused more. They can't make a new gene seed, yet new marines can be made, but you need an old gene seed from a dead marine.





okkkkkkkk it seems like from the books their armor isn't strong at all, and they die, a LOT! so Can someone explain this for me

well when one marine and another really love each other.......

the big piece of hardware on teh apothecaries arm
the reducter is use to remove the 2 gene seeds from a dead marine
those are then placed into new recruits according to the tradition of the chapter
and blah blahblah and so on there is tons of info on this i can rmember the exact process but you get the point

Yup... That's the key... Each marine produces TWO gene seed, not just one. And though it is usually done when dead, it is technically possible to remove the progenoid gland while they still live. And this begs the question.. If that is the case, and an Apothecary did so... Would it regrow, and make 2 new ones?

no actually i think in the libris astartes it says that each seed, if cultivated properly after recovery can be split into two for insretion into a new marine

H-uh, I was under the impression that the progenoids held the genetic data for cultivating the rest of the implants, and ad-mech/apothecaries used this data to construct new samples of the implants, to be inserted into the new recruits...

What about Chaos space marines? I read that chaos distorts the gene seed in one of the books

oh yeah the gene seed mutates and in alot of situations is forever lost or corrupted. there is re-use just like in the loyalist marines but chaos seed are corrupted from the beginning. just think of them is naturally evil organs.

Anyways so are the chaos space marines dwindling faster than the imperium?

There is always a steady (if small) number of marines who turn traitor by exposure to warp storms, tainted artifacts etc.
Something like being declared traitors by the Inquisition, even if they are loyal, will force marines to hide in the warp (where they'll eventually become corrupted) or be hunted down.

Chaos legions would also be able to create their own marines but with the degenerated state of the gene-seed I'd say this process would fail a lot of the time.

The only traitor legion i see not being able to get new recruits is the thousand sons, though they are rarely killed and if so, only the death of the sorceror will end up being the way that a thousand sons marine will actually ever be dead.

Thousand Sons (as a legion) get recruits on a regular basis.

It`s just that they all take the role of sorcs, not gollemish warriors

It was stated somewhere (i think in the new chaos dex) when they talked about ahriman`s rule of the legion and how they have cabals all over the galaxy and such

The Thousand Sons Legion isn`t made out just of the Rubic Marines (which are basicly golems - armor animated by a soul), they also have a high concenctration of cultists, psykers, sorcerors (how the hell do you spell that?) or whatever you want to call them

Don`t forget they`re serving Tzeench

So... as durable Rubic Marines may be, the sorcs are still squeeshy, and they need to be replaced

They replaces them with recruits form tzeenchian cults

don't forget that CSM can always steal uncorrupted geneseed from the planets were it is still manufactured. there was 3 then warsmith honsou of the iron warriors raided one took all the geneseed, made lots more iron warriors and sent the rest of the gene seed to abaddon. then ventris came and b***h slapped honsou and the daemonculabula (spawning daemons). proves that it should really be stable geneseed to make a new marine.
also the book that says that chaos distorts the geneseed is one of the soul drinkers books.
i dont think that thousan sons would recruit many new high ranking sorcerors becuase they weren't around to fight at the heresy. honsou was made slightly after the heresy and was treated as a half breed scum.
