Default Imperial Armour 5: The Siege of Vraks

Has anyone read it?

*Spoilers*

As is the tradition of the Imperial Armour volumes they send in the wrong assassin yet again to get the job done!
Just send in a bloody Callidus assassin to take out Cardinal Xaphan you muppets!

Also, when the Vindicare obviously failed why not just send in another assassin?
Rather than waste 12 years getting back an inpregnable fortress piece by piece why don't you just kill Xaphan and watch as the rebels crumble?

Vraks was taken from within so why noyt get it back the same way!!

The assassination attempt probably would be too expected and they would just waste another agent(just a counter-point, not a stance I want to defend). I have it and I'm a way into the siege but not quite finished. Took a look at most of the rules and I like that the Renegade army is based off of the Imperial Guard codex and not the Chaos one. The Kreig army is based on siege warfare and is pretty cool with lots of high power guns, these guns are very vulnerable in your average 40k game so the army itself isn't broken. Cool book, death corps are sweet, renegades sweeter.

It looks like an awsome book, but, alas its from Forge World. I'd be spending waaaay too much on it if I order overseas. Every summer I go up to Washington and go to a hobbystore there. Last year I noticed that they had IA books, so I'll be hoping the have IA5. BTW, does anyone live in Walla Walla?

I think a Callidus could easily infiltrate Vraks and the Phase sword would make short work of his Rosarius.
I'm glad the Vindicare thought ahead and realised that a Cardinal of the Ecclesiarchy would have a Rosarius!

yeah you'd think that there would be a chance for a shield breaker shot at some point or at the very least a shot that didnt have to pass through a pillar. So here is my argument against the callidus. With the assassination the place was completely under the control of zaphan and incoming ships would either be turned away or very tightly watched. The other thing is that maybe it is faster to gather millions of fighting men and weapons than it is to requisition a callidus assassin. They did need to make a move before zaphan took to space with his army and caused a sector wide problem with the complete loss of the stock piles as well.

Xaphan had no fleet to intercept the Imperial one that was sent. All the Imperium had to make sure they did was not get into low orbit and be blown away by the turbo laser batteries.

They landed troops and made a bloody railway to the place so I think that landing a Callidus wouldn't have been too much of a problem...especially when the orders come from a High Lord of Terra!

I bought The Inquisition book today and while it is a good read practically all the entries are sourced from bad author Dan Abnetts' books.
At least a mention of Inquisitor Lord Grundvald from Xenology is made.
It also saves me the money of having to buy the final Ravenor book since the only character I liked from the series was Frauka.

I bought Xenology in April 2006 from my local GW store for £15. I hear it goes for prices of >£50 on eBay.

If you look through the old threads in this section and find one entitled "Eldar Codex Map" then you can read a discussion I had with someone about Xenology and theories behind some of its excerpts.
I strongly recommend getting it as it is easily the best Black Library publication IMO...the only other that has come close to it was Tactica Imperialis.

It must be good then. I recall you being more harsh in your critisisms of books. No offense.

It doesn't have a Vespid dissection report.
It has;

Thyrrus
Tau
Kroot
Qorl
Umbra
Eldar
Ork
Hrud
Tyranids (Lictor, Genestealer and Ripper)

It also makes a mention of the Demiurg, Nekulli, Knib and Viskeon races in the miscellaneous section.

I like that Kroot model that bloke converted in a WD to look like the Predator.

On a side note, I'd like to say well done to Arkos for kicking Azrael's arse!
